You rarely use the quote feature so I don't always know who you are addressing or what you are commenting on. If you are commenting on my bikes, I'll just say that the tape on both bikes is Brooks leather to match the saddle. As you may recall from our conversation about clothing fabrics, I strongly prefer the feel and function of natural materials over synthetics. The cloth finishing tape hides the ugly electrical tape. I understand that most folks dislike the bars wrapped all the way to the stem. As far as it being a good or bad look, rverybody has different tastes, and that's a good thing IMO.
PS. The blue grips are filled with tacky GLITTER which was all the rage on cheap 1970's American bikes. And since it is a cheap 1970's American bike, I thought they made for a nice "Period Correct" accent.
PSS. The black grips are period correct repros too.

You are 100% correct. I strongly prefer that look over tape on old bikes. I need to learn how to do the hidden knot thing. It's been on my to-do list for a while.
You are 100% correct. Everything on the bikes except for the cheap stems is monumental overkill. The brown one has a Dura-Ace front hub for crying out loud. Brooks bar tape on an $80.00 bike? Lunacy for sure.
For me it's just a silly nostalgia thing. When I was a kid in the '70s we were poor. The "Rich" kids in my neighborhood rode used Huffys. The "Richer" kids had dumpster Schwinns. Only the truly wealthy people from the other side of town were able to ride new Schwinns. Nice bikes from Europe didn't even exist in my world.
With the long stays and slack geometry they actually ride quite nicely. And with all the steel components replaced with aluminum, and nice tires mounted, they roll very very well. Never had a thing for drop bars, even when I was younger. Too limiting for playful rides. Can't wheelie properly. Wheelies are important to me.

They were cheap Craigslist bikes. The most expensive one was $100.00 for a complete and working bike. It's just the $10.00 piece here, and the $20.00 part there that add up to by the time you are done.

The problem here in Belgium is that "Cheap Craigslist bikes" don't exist. Everyone here thinks a bike that cost them 300 bucks in the past has doubled in value over the course of a few years!

My knee has been dumbtarded lately.
For some reason, snow seems to help this situation.
