Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Of course, the bike in the ad looks to be brakeless. The crank might be a problem, though, unless you used a tandem crank with the left hand pedal thread on the drive side. Otherwise, precession will tend to loosen the pedals as you ride.
My point was to answer TenSpeedV2's question as to whether it could be restored to a proper setup.

I am all for trying new and different stuff. Sheldon pieced stuff together to push the envelope of functionality and many a budding fixie enthusiast as threaded a track cog on a freewheel hub just to get fixed.

Left side drive is really pointless though, it really just doesn't make sense to install all your stuff backwards just for aesthetics.

Furthermore, it wouldn't be skid stops you'd want to avoid using a righty hub installed on the left... where that may fail is when you are mashing up a steep climb with the only the lockring keeping the cog from spinning off.

Thanks for answering. As for aesthetics, it seems odd. Maybe I am just used to it being right side drive.

Laughable asking price (even for a Laser) but such an ugly (non-original?) paint job; such a pity.

56cm Schwinn Madison in Seattle for $500

1985 Schwinn Madison track bike, 56cm, vintage fixed
- TTT Stem
- Suzue Promax Hubs
- CKC toe clips with leather straps
- MKS pedals
- Sugino Mighty Competition crank and Surly cog (47x19)
- silver non-machined deep rims (brand is speculative based on what i remember being told and old research. pretty sure they're not Velocity)
- Nitto bars
- Prolink Gel Pro Selle Italia saddle
- Currently brakeless, but compatible. You can also have the 2 brake set-ups, handlebar tape, and the bar pad if you want.

Doesn't seem too bad.

Not for me, because I live on a steep hill, and I'm 56, so I need gears for climbing, but this looks to be a quite nice fixie at a nice price here in San Diego:

6 grand for an unassembled mountain bike from the early 90's? Uh, am I missing something or is this a joke?
