Deraillure with B-link, mounted to frame hanger

Can I mount a Shimano RD with a B-link to a mid-90s mountain bike that has the hanger as part of the frame?

Thanks,

Yes you can but you must use the link. Mounting without the link would require that you use a direct mount hanger specifically designed with the right set back.

Ok, welll that's great news.

Next Question. The B-Link has a nub on it, does that sit above the b-screw-stop (not sure about terminology) on the hanger?

If you look at the picture, does the nub sit on top of the stop that is circled in white?

Thanks!

While I would love confirmation on this from someone. I want to give an update.

I installed the RD (with the nub directly above the b-screw-stop) and it does seem to shift correctly. There are some slight issues but I think it's because the hanger/frame may be bent. Both RDs had a distinct, outward angle and it's my understanding that basically all RD should sit vertically. All the parts on this bike are ultimately going on another frame so I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, you have it right. It's a fairly quick job (with the right tools) to align the drop-out and hanger. If you plan to ride this bike for more than a few months, you may want to have it aligned.

Good luck

Moe, greatly appreciate the encouragement. I used the below DIY version of a derailleur alignment tool and it worked great. I had another bike that's been sitting because of a bent hanger and I was able to fix that one too. Anyone else reading this and needing to straighten your hanger should give it a try. So much easier than I expected. Thanks again for the help.

Interesting and useful video. However, when the guy is measuring from the alignment bar to the rim he keeps saying the distance is 8 to 9 mm. I expect he means 8 to 9 cm (about 3-1/2 inches)
