im not all that worried about a super bright tail light, personally. a car coming up behind me should have its lights on. a good reflector should be plenty for visibility.

Delta made taillights that glowed brighter when you hit the brakes, that was in the 50s or so, have one.

Cycleway town
My bike has a 12v supply for lighting, but i don't use a tail light. This topic makes me want to fit a crazy one. Like a car fog light. Some of the latest LED ones are pretty rad. You could always use a 12v rechargeable li-po battery.
