I think that most integrated headsets are expecting a tapered fork with a built in crown race, so there are two different diameters for the headset. I'm pretty sure the "at insertion" refers to the diameter of the bottom. The FTP requires a straight fork so this is probably an indication that you are looking at the wrong headsets.

The cane creek site says that will work.
It is probably the case that the other 42mm ones will also work. It is supposed to be hiddenset compatible. I think I have an extra cane creek upper if you want to pm me and buy the lower separately.

I have a 2009 Fuji Track Pro that I would like to start building up, but I'd first like to know what crankset I can run. I am pretty sure I have a single crimp model just like yours. Are those SRAM S300 cranks? I have a 56cm and I would like to run a 170mm crankset. Would you be able to confirm which cranksets I can definitely run. As far as I understand my only option is the FSA track pro, but it seems you've gone a different route.
Thanks,
Carlos.

Those are 165mm SRAM s300s. Basically any crankset that doesn't have an excessively think chainring spider like the SRAM omniums should work I would think. I've definitely seen someone with a single crimp running Sugino 75s.

That, and they're either 110bcd or 130, regardless they're smaller than 144 so the spider doesnt stick out as far either.
My buddy runs those on his ftp, solid crankset.

The Slowest FTP Build
Hello all, I ordered my FRP tearoff from Nashbar on 11/03/11. I had no plans when I ordered it but I thought the frames were a bargain and felt I could live with a smaller chain ring.
I ordered the frame via phone and when I asked to order one of the “defective” FTP frames to the sales rep she said “Thank god, your getting the last XL we have, we’ll be glad to see the last of these due to all the controversy”. We flirted a bit and I got the frame for $165 shipped.
The box sat unopened for a couple years. I’d just pulled the frame out of the box to check what chain stay version I received (Double crimp!) when I was helping my Father plan to build up a coastie based off an mid 80’s NOS Centurion LeMans frame I had and he spotted the FTP. He was pretty excited about the frame so the FTP became his. I had built him a single speed based off a vintage Nishiki Competition but the coaster brake idea really intrigued him. For Christmas I bought him a set of eBay special coaster brake wheels. The wheelset have some seriously deep cross section polished aluminum rims, a Shimano front hub, and a 110 spaced coaster brake hub in the back. I’ve had several bikes that weight less then this wheelset.
Shorty after this Dad was diagnosed with cancer and he was gone within a few months. When cleaning out his garage I found where Dad had stashed the frame and wheels in their original box’s. While dumpster diving at a bike co-op I found a correct factory FC-770 fork among all the steel Wal-Mart bike parts. I paid $20 for it. The color is white/black (2008?) instead of red/black but they look good together.
I tried to sell the project on CL (Full disclosure on frame) but had few responses. One guy was pretty hot to buy it but after I told him the history of the frame he sighed and said “Dude, you need to finish the bike to honor your Dad”
I’m finally making a bit of progress on the bike. Had LBS re-dish/re-space the rear wheel (124mm rear spacing ?!?)), picked up a Stronglight Mygal crankset, and a BB & headset so all the major parts are there now. Planing on a set of Chinese carbon fiber base TT bars. I’d like to try and get the later model seat mounting bracket. Will hit LBS today.
I’m planing on using the bike as a short-hop errand bike and keep it in a bike locker at work. My gut feeling is I’m going to hate the wheels and will put a proper set of track wheels on it eventually.
Will try to post pictures but have never had good luck doing this on these sites. It’s nice to see so many people still enjoy these frames despite their issues.
