I just purchased a Giant Roam and I'm looking to replace the stock saddle. My mountain bike had a Selle Italia Oktavia saddle and it was comfortable after an intial break in period. Selle doesn't make them anymore so I'm on the hunt for something new w/ some padding. Any suggestions? What are you guys using?

I Googled Brooks and they look comfortable but I was thinking in terms of something between an "old school" saddle and butt floss.

I just went from my stock avenir, which wasn't too bad actually, to a Selle QBik. Its a little thinner and has a little more give. Plus it has the cut out. I almost went with the WTB model that people really seem to like.

I rather like the Specialized Body Geometry 'Sonoma' and 'Milano' for hybrids. these come in two different widths depending on how far apart your sit-bones are. I avoid the 'gel' versions, 'gel' just means squishy foam, and squishy foam squirms under your butt while you're pedaling.

the saddle choice is heavily influenced by your riding position. I tend to ride fairly forward for a flatbar hybrid, I have my bars at the same height as the seat, and a fairly long frame with a long low stem.

I like and own both Brooks and Selle Anatomica they are the best you can
buy. I have Selle Anatomica on mostly bikes that I need the seat set back just a little more than I get the Brooks to do.

The Selle is broken-in right out of the box, the Brooks is not so forgiving 90% of the time. But when you get your Brooks broken-in to your back side it fits you like a old leather shoe.

You will get many and varied opinions on saddles, but I guess you knew that.

I like WTB saddles, and the WTB Rocket V saddle fits my butt the best. It has decent padding and flex and just feel 'right' to me. I have Rocket-Vs on both my MTBs and my Hybrid, in various configurations of rails/covering.

For my road-bike I stuck with the standard Fi'zi:k Aliante, which looks racier but it still pretty comfortable.

Exact same experince, have Brooks, tried an AnAtomica, love both.
The Selle website was the cheapest place to buy them.

Actually, I just bought a Fizik XM Muzzle. Got it off EBay for $69. It's a nice saddle. I had one before so I figured I try it again. Thanx for the suggestions.

Seems like I've done more research on bike saddle then bike I plan to buy next week. Just found a great deal on a Selle Italia Man Gel flow saddle for $80. Amazon has the exact same saddle for $164 and Selle Italia will ship for free. Doing some fine checking it appears the saddle I bought is a 2012 (an offered on Amazon) version, and slightly smaller/lighter then the Selle 2013 seat. I was close to buying a Serfas saddle but only reviews I could find were through REi and felt the Serfas saddles might have too much padding and were on the heavy side. Its wacky how much some bike seats cost and in some case the saddle could cost more then the bike itself. Now I have to figure out what I do with the Cannondale bike seat that I plan to replace with the Selle.

If you dont want to drop $100 + on a saddle, check the local Bikeshop for saddles removed from new bikes,
by customers feeling they wanted something else , and bought that instead.

they're new, and cost less than the same saddle would, if it had a hang tag and packaging. with it.
