Looking for parts.

My wife is trying to rebuild her mother’s old bike. It was originally bought in Holland or Germany in the mid 1940’s. The brand name on it is Locomotief. We live in North East, US but will order from just about anywhere. Any suggestions where we can find vintage bike parts for this bike?

Ebay!

There's also this merchant in Germany. I haven't used them, but their catalog looks promising.

Via bicycles in Philadelphia. You'll pay, but he has a TON of obscure stuff.

Good luck getting them to respond to email. The majority I've sent to bikeville that say "I'm ready to buy this part you have listed" elicit no response. The one time I tried calling their shop to inquire about the parts, I got a snippy salesman who said I had to go through their web site, which as I said was unresponsive to email.

Joe,

What kind of Locomotief? is it an omafiets like this:

if so you are probably going to have to search some of the Dutch auction sites for the parts.
if it's not an omafiets what kind of bike is it? do you have any pictures?

Marty

edit: the above is a new bike a reproduction and not a real 40's bike.

Bikeville = They don't want to talk to you.
Bikeville = Forget about a reply.
Bikeville = Waste your time.
Bikeville = Worthless.
Bikeville = No sale.
Bikeville = Fail.

I live in Philly and just stop by. I've never had a problem and have bought a lot of parts from them...I've always found their staff and owner (Curtis) to be helpful, insightful and friendly. They can be a bit tough to get by email.

That place is so incredibly busy that I think they're just overwhelmed on the website stuff.

How practical is that for the rest of us who are nowhere near Philadelphia? If Bikeville can't be troubled to answer email from people who are practically throwing money at them, then maybe they ought to ditch their web site and focus on the lucky few who can visit them in person.

The OP states he's in the NE...it might be practical for him to stop by (I said Via, not Bikeville). I agree that they should be doing better with the net side of the business.

I'd be happy to pick things up for people as well.

That's strange, I've never had a problem with Bikeville ... They usually get back to me within a day and my order goes out shortly there after.

Scott...they're inconsistent. One guy (Joel) runs that whole shebang, and he's also a Mechanic, manager...he wears a lot of hats in there. I LOVE Via and I think Joel is a great guy...but they can be tough and unresponsive at certain times.

I'll keep this in mind for the future, thanks. My emails were always responded to by someone named Ralph ... Perhaps I was just lucky!
