This amazing Raleigh bicycle may very well have belonged to President Barack Obama when he attended college at Columbia University. I can't prove it did, but at the same time- you can't prove it didn't. It's a large bike. I'm 6'6" (President Obama is 6'2"). The paint job isn't perfect, but the frame is in great shape and I recently replaced a tire so they are in good shape as well. The reason I must part with this (possibly historically significant) bicycle is that I am a coward. I rode a few times, but realized I'm too afraid of hurting myself to ride it with any regularity. With this truly amazing bicycle (which might belong in a museum) I am including a very nice bike lock (AND key) which I purchased for $50. I am also including an awesome (but now outdated) Livestrong (LOL) bike helmet. Remember Lance Armstrong? What a fun cultural reference! Lastly, I am including a handheld tire pump. It's small enough to fit in a backpack (or large pants pocket) so you'll always have it handy to adjust the tire pressure. All of this for the low, low price of $200. Yes we can!

Someone said Obama owned it, at least that's what I hear..I don't know for sure but it's what people are saying... I hope someone will look into it a let the real facts come out.

I wonder if the cheetah statues were once (possibly) owned by Amanda Blake?

SUUURE it lets you type D-I-C-K, but not D-Y-K-E. What kind of homophobic, misogynistic censor is this! You needed to say Rob Petrie i guess!

If I go look at the bike, are we going to scroll through pics of one on the internet?

https://charlottesville.craigslist.o...037088312.html

OK I get trying to show what a great deal yours is, but ya think you might want to take a pic of yours while the camera's out?

I have a hunch this ad may be from a C&V regular: https://kansascity.craigslist.org/bi...038263627.html

Pretty bike in great condition, but $950 is completely overboard, especially in MOKAN. Maybe the poster is angling for interest from outside the KC area...? Whoever this is is one of those who posts just tons of CL ads. Some decent bikes but always asking way too much.

My fictional version plays better...

More from the city, Queens this time. So here's my instantaneous read of the situation. (I went to school and lived in the city for 30 years.)
The kid (a JD in the neighborhood), is taking a short-cut across this vacant lot to hook up with his boys. He sees the abandoned bike against the wall, and thinks "yeah baby, this is easier than boosting stuff from front yards." Snaps a pic on his phone, and lists it. In my version, local pick up is encouraged. But mine is a fictional account.

The seller seems to want to deliver value, not run a hustle, even if he did find it. Good for him! I hope it works out.

Here's the full text: Vintage bicycle from 1980,s.All metal. frame size 22".wheels 27x 1 1/4 .Brakes, shifters and de-railer in good working condition.Chain will be cleaned and lubricated at the time of a purchase.New brake and shifting cables will be included.Made in Japan.

I still say he found it, but he's letting himself in for a world of hurt trying to ship it for $20. Stem is frozen, pedals, seatpost probably are too. Going to "restore" the chain. Making assurances about the functionality? What happens if someone actually buys it, and is NOT satisfied... Could have been a Seinfeld episode with Cramer as the protagonist. (all rights reserved)

At least it's not a Brooks price

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Viscount-Br...AAAOSw4U1dE27Q

Seller is insinuating that this vinyl origin8 saddle is somehow a member of the Brooks family. You'll still pay 2x more than its worth after shipping...

As this listing appears, proofide packet, literature, and tightening wrench...

... for the non-existent tightening nut...

Oh, there's the branding...

oooh, an Avocet. Those got me off my old Brooks Pro and pretty much introduced the modern saddle.

I had that old brooks pro bagged in my garage, but with 30 years of neglect, it got damp and rotted out :-/

btw, the XO-3 came with those bars, and 26x1.1" wheels... early 90s, around $600 new, and that one looks /perfect/ and unmolested. The Avocet Touring was OE.

I don't know if it's perspective and foreshortening due to the lens or what, but those bars just look bigger than the rest of the bike combined. I think that was my issue more than the style of the bars. That and the cable loops up by the bars look a bit extra long.

I think because the bars are so high and forward and wide, they need those big loops to not bind around the head tube if the bars are turned fully around. all the vintage pictures i dug up on XO-3's show the same big loops.

Maybe it's the camera, that crank arm and pedal look a little radical, too.

You realize there is a section called "Best of Craigslist", right? It's there for a reason and encourages this type of sales copy.

As for the price, I"m guessing he thinks he has a $100 bike with $100 in accessories and he's leaving some room for negotiation. And he is in NY; everything is expensive there.

I get the criticism for no actual pictures of the bike, but the pricing is reasonable. If you are looking for a used "buddy bike", good luck. I've never seen one outside of adaptive riding camps. If you need one of these, saving $500 off new is probably a big deal. In the supply/demand equation, supply is very limited.
