I got a few typical cycling skull caps with the small brim, but sometimes I’d like a larger/longer brim like a baseball cap. Baseball caps are notorious for that little button on top, so they don’t work well under your helmet...

Who makes a good long brim, baseball like hat to fit under m bike helmet?

BTW, Ihave a Da Brim hat I use for some summer rides but that’s not what I’m looking for,

There are lots of long billed caps without top buttons. Check fishing apparel stores. Occasionally they're advertised as "long billed baseball caps" but are more commonly associated with fishing. Some have really long bills that might hinder peripheral vision, but they vary in length.

Some helmets will accommodate a baseball/gimme cap with the button. The Poc Omne Air Spin has enough overhead room for it. I got one a size larger so it works fine with knit caps or brimmed caps.

I have a few different brands of running hats with thin polyester material. They fit under a helmet very well and sweat evaporates much better than cotton hats. When it is cold/windy, I were a brimless cap that can be pulled down to cover the ears. Wear with a neck gaiter and it keeps the head/neck area warm. I am not a fan of balaclavas.

Also seem to be all cotton, which doesn't ever work well for me and my head sweat. Gotta be synthetics or wool for me.

I should add, "one size fits most" hats are always too small for my big Mellon head. This is why your typical cycling hat doesn't work for me!

Exactly what I did. I needed an improvised visor for riding in rain so I took an old cap, pulled the button off, peeled out some of the stiff liner, and Bob's your uncle.

I have a merino waltz cap in their largest size and I like it a lot. I got the small brim however, I’ll check out their longer brims.

I don't know how folks can see out from under a long billed cap. It's not easy for me even with a short brimmed cycling cap. Maybe I need more forehead....

Good point, I guess it’s Winter and I’m riding my Fat bike where I sit more upright and the sun is lower right now!

yeah, in the summer on my drop bar bike, a long brim might be too long.

I had considered something like that. Think I prefer a full cap for when I take the helmet off and for moisture wicking. No hair on my head!

and there are numerous other brands and styles of both to get the combination that works for you
although then you will have three different things on your head when combined with a helmet
the three piece ensemble works for me but maybe not for others

I have concerns about what happens when a rigid cap bill that is held firmly in place by a helmet is driven back into the scalp in the case of a crash. Anyone think that might be a valid concern?

I've been on organized rides where long brim hats such as baseball caps are not allowed and potential riders are told that in the brochure/waiver form.

Yep. Unless you are riding a beach cruiser with a completely upright position, a longer-billed cap will allow you to only see the pavement for a few feet beyond your front wheel - which is very dangerous. This is why cycling caps have short bills.

Great discussion considering my first topic here.

Sounds like I want a mid brim at most and a soft one at that.. The short brim is sometimes a little too short for me but yeah, once I get on my warm-weather bike in spring with the drop bars a long brim wouldn’t work out.

Just get a Bern. Literally a helmet with a hat brim built into it.
Look sexy and available for mating, block the sun, and protect ya neck.
