Cool, but touring and internet usage are not mutually exclusive events, one can easily do both.

Just like the people on the MyFitnessPal forum asking what MFP stands for.

Got any ideas for a person landing in Cody with a month or so to roll around?
What about heading west on 20 and then walking over to the Sleeping Giant, or rolling up the sunlight creek, or something? To long since I passes that way.

Chief Joseph Highway is insanely steep -
especially on the switchbacks coming north off of Dead Indian Pass.
It gives me the heebie-jeebies - - and I've been in a lot of heebie-jeebie places.
There have been long-term slide problems which WYDOT is trying to fix.
Don't know if the highway will be open or closed in 2019.

I would certainly hope you are logged off of all devices if you attempt it.

We rode through Wyoming when we followed the Highway 20 across the U.S., Newport, OR to Boston. What type of tour are you doing, i.e., loop, one way, or?
I found the country east of Cody more interesting than to the west. Nebraska has some great riding. We were really glad when we reached Nebraska. My wife and I have talked several times about doing a 2-3 week ride around Nebraska that will give us more time to explore the state. We were working the first time we went through, and did not have much time to explore because we had to be back to work on a given date.
Jamawani will probably have better ideas than me on loop routes, but I can surely tell you about Highway 20

OP seems to just be judging in a thinly veiled manner.
to each their own.
I did 2 short weekend trips in addition to the standard week long RAGBRAI.
I had connection for probably half of it.
I dont find lack of data connection to be important to touring.
its of no consequence if someone tours for a year straight but has data the whole time

Hooked on Touring
You know - I posted the photo of Yellowstone because of the word play - "Log off"?
But the Yellowstone region can have pretty heavy traffic in summer with all the tourists.
Are you interested in doing any dirt? A little, some, mostly??
There are some excellent out-and-backs in the Cody region.
The Bighorns have a couple of superb, but tough routes.
The Green River Lakes with Squaretop Mountain are great.
But a month?
Don't know your touring style, mileage, or whether you've done the parks.
You can still enjoy the parks if you ride at dawn and hike midday.
A fine tour includes a Yellowstone-Glacier loop.
Up on the east side; down on the west side.
A month would allow you time to explore all the backroads.
Google "Kirwin, Wyoming".

+1. Touring and being "connected" are not mutually exclusive. For example, I may be out on the road and check Google Maps for directions confirmation or book a room halfway through a day's ride because the weather has turned horrible.

I put my vote in the category that includes the number "4" but I'm not sure this was the right thing to do.
But I did do three four day rides, one three day ride, one two day ride, and many one day rides.
I hesitate because none of this was exactly what I would call "touring." Two 1200 mile brevets, covered a lot of ground, but that's not touring. Four days of riding around Long Island and CT, but also not quite touring. And so on. You can call this BS if you wish, I make no excuses, but that's what I can offer.

Added together, I have spent more than 2 years inside Yellowstone park. Not bicycle friendly. I like the area just east of the park. Never realy cycled in Wyoming.
Amelia Earhart likes Kirwin Wyoming, good enough for me.
I was thinking more of a fishing poll and a back pack for some hiking, lot of wilderness in the area. Not looking for high mileage days. Get off your bike and have a good look around.
Google maps does not seem to know where
Valley Wy is¿
Dirt yes, HWY not to much.

For some reason the people with the highest post counts claim the least touring days and most affection for the computer.
virtual touring, live your touring fantasy through outhers.

Actually, if I could see stats on the time of posting of all my posts, I'd bet an uncomfortably high percentage would be during working hours...

Or to put this a different way, if the internet disappeared tomorrow, my touring wouldn't change in any meaningful manner. If I suddenly had all the money I ever needed and obligations disappeared, it likely would.

Bike touring vs virtual touring.
real vs not real
How healthy is a computer compared to riding a bicycle¿
Who is on the other end of the post you reply to?
Are there hiden dangers in the computer?¿

we all make choices in life that affect what time we have for different activities. None are right and none are wrong.
priorities vary from person to person.
move on.

I mean, I guess all this makes sense if my only two choices in life are playing on a computer or riding a bike, but I live in a reality where that isn't my binary option list.
If anything, my boat, motorcycle, and the racing Corvette project showing up this week is a far bigger danger to my touring than the internet, and yet I'm using the internet to plan my next tour now...

I didn't tour but logged off many times. Hiking and backpacking has taken most all of my touring time in the last 2-3 years. I mostly bike to connect trailheads. I still come here out of habit and maybe answer some questions. Most of job consist of waiting so I've done my share of virtual travelling. We used to have sat-tv at work to keep us entertained. The internet replaced that quickly.

No clue, all I know is two months of touring a year is more or less out of the question for me for many more years (decades), and that has nothing to do with internet. If a week or two a year makes me only a virtual tourist, oh well I guess.
Just doing the math, I realize I'm probably better off for vacation time than a lot of the population. Even so (and ignoring the fact my current job duties don't allow time off this time of year to make it happen), if I wanted close to two months off for a tour, I'd have to take my seventeen days, use them all in December bookended up against my year end auto industry shutdown, then take my next year's seventeen days off and use them the first three weeks of January. It would be the entirety of my PTO for two years, it would be ignoring family over the holidays, and it would limit me to places nice enough to tour in December. It may be what some would do, it's not the best balance of time off for me.

I got a warning ticket for staching my bicycle in the woods of a national park this summer. Maybe 100 feet from the road.
That sounds so much better than a fifty thousand post count.
How does a high post count effect the qualith of life and happiness?
Do people with the highest post counts have the most bitter answers?
If there was no computer in front of you and no tv would you be out walking your dog or riding to a trail head for a weekend hike?
What are the other choices besides electronic machines¿
How do computers effect the quality of life?
Trapped at work and trapped in front of a computer are not one and the same. Would pixel addicts be happier if they logged off and went out side ¿
