So my training buds are going to the mountains this Friday and I doubt I can swing it. Fudge.

And there are two young brothers I've been racing against the last four years - they're 15 and 16 now, both 3s, and the 16 year old will get his 2 upgrade this year. The 15 year old should get his 2 next year. They've reached that point in life where they are great at talking sh--. Fortunately they can take it as well as they give it.
Finally, at the road race a few weeks ago, this 14 year old pulls up to the front of the Cat 4 field carrying a double wheel bag that was as big as he was. It was a pretty funny sight and we thought he was bringing his father's wheels to the wheel truck. Nope. They were his. He held his own for the most part in the race. He'd get a little swervy whenever we went up hill and he had to stand to hammer, but I guess that is expected when you're 4 feet tall.

I'm glad this is my last week. The two owners left for an hour, leaving me and one son in law to cover 5 areas in the store (and one of them is "inside the store") and the phone. Customers came in. 15 minutes in line to buy a few dollars of stuff.
I think we have virtually no customers under 30 years old, very few under 40. Most of them are 60-80+ years old. If it were me I'd have left instead of waiting (and I'll leave a store if I think the reason for my wait is that it's not being run well, I'll just put my stuff down and walk out).

There's an 11 year old here that races the cat 5 races in addition to the junior races and holds his own. He's definitely not someone I want to ride near when he stands up though. Bike gets thrown all over the places. I think he ended up getting yelled at pretty good on Sunday during the cat5 race.

On a brighter note, Emile Abraham came in 3rd for speedweek overall. And to think, we almost had him in our kit this year.
Also there's a 15 year old Cat III named Johnathan Brown from here in GA that's doing well in the 2/3 races. He's with Hot Tubes right now and may have a bright future.

On Saturday I learned that cursing loudly at a race, even if you just won, is against the rules (16Q(b)).. good thing they let it slide!
Lol.

Ugh- There's something burning in my office building, but no one can figure out what it is. I can't locate it, neither can any co-workers or building maintenance. It's strong enough that it's starting to give me a headache, but not strong enough for them do move people. Periodically, I get a whiff of smoke, like I'm sitting in a high mass, and it does linger, but just can't track it down.
Ain't it grand, sitting on the 13th floor of an office building with a smoldering something about, knowing that the building isn't even sprinkled? (It does have fire hoses in the two stairwells, but c'mon, who's using those things?)

Just heard the Tuesday night race was cancelled because of rain. This happens way too common. It's become a running joke: How do I know if it's going to rain tonight? It's the Ace Speedway night. At least I didn't drive the hour out there before finding out the race was canceled.
And as a side note - the race is held on a banked auto track that becomes quite treacherous when its wet due to the large amount of auto chemicals that have been spilled on there over the years, hence the reason it is cancelled for rain.

Bought a track bike. About $600 including shipping for an '09 S-Works Langster. Parts aren't amazing, but I feel it's a good deal for a decent bike. A good frame that I can build upon over time.
Track racing starts this Thursday. Hopefully I'll have my bike in time to go next Thursday.

Not sure. It's not big but it's aggressive in the fast/attack sense. The Cannondale boys come out and play (Curt, Chris P, etc are regulars). Not sure how it will be this year with the new format/promoter (Panificio Navona). I hope for their sakes it is good.
I may make it in a few weeks, depending on a lot of stuff. I still have to get the van from there - riding there, doing a race, and driving home worked for me a prior time.
