Got the powertap back together and went for a ride to test it out...The plan was 2x20's...Did one and the legs were toast...It's been a hard week so I called it a day and rode home...

Provincial RR this weekend, should get my ass handed to me, but that's ok...It's all good fun!

Did the "other" hammer ride last night. My legs are a wee bit sore this morning from the combination of stadiums at noon and being the hammer at 6.

2hr w/ 3x15min at threshold (well actually a bit below). My makeshift Garmin mount I was using on my TT bike fell apart, so I ended up having to do my intervals based on RPE while I kept the Garmin in my pocket. Actually paced pretty good all things considered, but didn't get quite the intervals I needed. Still, two days in a row of 150 TSS during the week isn't too bad.

What is a better ride if you are short on time:
Ride 1:
Distance: 14.23 mi
Time: 53:13
Avg Speed: 16.1 mph
Elevation Gain: 1,959 ft
Calories: 503 C
Avg Temperature: 73.4 °F
Avg HR: 131 bpm
Max HR: 162 bpm

Ride 2:

Distance: 28.68 mi
Time: 1:25:31
Avg Speed: 20.1 mph
Elevation Gain: 957 ft
Calories: 483 C
Avg Temperature: 74.4 °F
Avg HR: 114 bpm
Max HR: 159 bpm

Just perpetuating a discussion I am having with a good friend.

I like ride 1

but I suck at hills and need all the elevation I can get.

also depends on your goals and the days before and after

Understood - we were having a discussion around time/training/etc. and we say they are even rides.

Yup probably similar. Seems like you went harder in the first because of the climbing, but further in the second, and should be close to evening out. TSS comparison would make this easy.

Sell my zipps for me and I'll get one from mckenna

Both were actually recovery type rides in similar temps, the longer ride was very easy but got caught at 14 stop lights. The shorter one was looking at fit on the bike (changed a bunch of stuff) from a climbing perspective (got it dialed in now).
Just messing around.

Tuesday night was pyramids, felt great on the bike. Wednesday was tabata inside, that was awful but power was decent for inside. Thursday was racing track. It was ok. Legs felt decent, not good, not bad.

2:10 today with 3x15's - I was planning on 4 but got halfway through the 4th and stopped cause it was so humid and I could barely breathe. First solid threshold ride (since the TT at nats) and I've definitely lost about 10 watts or so but you can't get better if you don't take a step back occasionally .

It is pouring rain with lightning right now. And if I wait it out it will be too late as there are plans for the evening.

I guess that I'll try to sneak in an extra 1 to 2 hours tomorrow to make up for not riding today. Gonna have to get up early and wake up the birds.

Snuck in a hour or so this morning and an hour or so just now in between storms (hill repeats outside my office), just beat the storm in this morning and it is coming again now. Gotta do what you gotta do

I'm hoping to get in 3 to 4 hours tomorrow morning. Maybe a shenanigans ride with some team mates if it falls into place.

Then I get to relax and cook dinner for some visitors before an evening of playing bridge.

I am the poster boy for cognitive dissonance.

For myself I am torn between the following:
1. Club ride with some friends, more like a recovery ride as these are club riders (~4 hours) - ride from home
2. Shop ride with some other friends most of which are 150 pound or less climbers and a climbing route (~2.5 hours with them then 1.5 hours by myself) - ride from home
3. Drive 45 minutes each way to do a hammer ride (sim. race ride for lack of a better term) with a bunch of P/1/2 guys - not a whole lot of fun/games just pain.

As we all know I have no training plan but ride number 2 would probably put in the most discomfort as two of the guys are really strong climbers. It would fit my life plan better as I would be back home by 10:00 at the latest. the other ride I don't get home from until much, much later (plus I hate driving to rides). As I am not a climber I like to climb with climbers as I really have to work to stay with them so I think that will be my choice.

Swam at lunch. I'm only a few blocks from a city pool and need to take better advantage of it, especially on Fridays when I'm less likely to have a calendar full of meetings. Felt good.

Me too. Coach told me to do a hard group ride tomorrow and I think I'm going to pass on the harder one because I have to drive so far to get there, and just do one I can ride to that should still be pretty decent (and a bit longer).

You could suck it up and show up to the next installment of the Gainesville TT Challenge. Hell, it won't cost you a dime, just a little bit of sweat, vomit, and tears.

You should know better. I think that you have one at least outlined. And your answer is consistent with this idea.

From your response I think that you are looking for long hard efforts tomorrow so you are past the "base" period. Given that option 1 is now out the window.

Playing with the skinny guys in the hills will give you the motivation and there is no way to "hide" and cheat. We all know that with the fast guys in option 3 you can always find a way to wheel suck. In the hills there is no sheltering from gravity. Option 2 is the guarantee of long and hard efforts.

If you were later in your training plan you would want to ride with the fast guys to sprint with them and not just show up for the ride. I predict that you will be selecting this option in a couple of weeks.
