Need a little guidance putting a wheel order together.
Hi, my wife and I are going on a cross country bike tour this month . You can check out our blog at Roaming with the Romers . I'm looking to replace my rear wheel with something more robust. I chose a Sun ryhno lite 700c and an lx 36h hub. I found those online no problem, now I need to get the spokes and nipples. I'm not sure how to figure out what I need or what parts are right for each other. Is there a specific website that sells everything together? There is a guy locally that teaches bike repair as long as you get the parts . So I'm trying to figure it all out and get the wheel built in time for our may 11th departure date.

Well, you've got the rim and hub; now you just need spokes and nipples. You'll need some measurements from the rim and hub to determine the length of the spokes you'll need. An online spoke calculator like EDD ( https://leonard.io/edd ) may already have your hub and rim measurements. If so, confirm measurements and plug in your preferred lacing pattern (standard 3-cross?), and it'll tell you the spoke length.
Once you know the length, you'll need to buy spokes. My usual source is Dan's Comp (danscomp.com). You'll need to call them to place a spoke order, but they have good pricing, fast shipping, and will cut to the exact mm you specify. They seem to have raised their price recently from 40 cents per spoke to 60 cents per spoke for 14g/15g Sapim double-butted stainless steel spokes, including brass nipples.

Bikes: A steel framed 26" off road tourer from a manufacturer who thinks they are cool. Giant Anthem. Trek 720 Multiroad pub bike. 10 kids bikes all under 20". Assorted waifs and unfinished projects.

You can use this site to calculate what spoke lengths you need Freespoke
Add the rim and hub to your bench then use them in the calculator to work out your spoke length. For the hub, use the hub with the closest flange diameter and offsets probably the Shimano LX M580.
My calcs have you needing 296 and 294 spokes, though you could probably run all 296 as the 294 are listed as 294.7 and 1.3mm won't make a huge difference even if it's slight proud of the nipple on the Rhynolites (they are a pretty good rim to build, they are pretty straight and round out of the box) DT Swiss Alpine III are really nice spokes for a touring build too...use 14mm nipples.
