Bottom Line...How much weight did you lose cycling this year?
Don't have big miles under my belt this year but decided to try an experiment and ramp up my miles and see if I could drop some more weight. Big help from local trail being paved so now I could get out and do a quick 30 miles without putting my bike in my car.
Anybody get weight obsessed riding this year? When I was younger, weight was never an issue. I was a skinny and active kid. Gradually into my forties I started to gain a bit. I've never been fat and always been active but pounds started to slowly accumulate. About 6 years ago I got down to 178 lbs and was riding a lot. I am just over 6' feet tall and my family thought I was anorexic of course and you all have heard those comments before from people 30 lbs overweight...which is complete BS if not jealousy. I was 197 lbs coming out of winter as I never do a lot of cardio during the winter...ridiculously cold winter last year to ride and I hate riding a trainer inside.
I started to ride hard 30 miles everyday and the pounds started coming off. I am down to 185 lbs without being too careful about what I eat which is one of the nice benefits of riding.
So I lost about 10 lbs.
How 'bout you guys?

I've lost 36 lbs this year going from 255 to 219 so far. My goal is to get to at least under 210 and under 200 if possible.

I started in April at 295 and now I'm down to 263. So a little over 30 pounds off of my 5 ft 8 frame. Most if it was diet. Just giving up sugar and doing a low carb diet. But I kind of stalled out after dropping 20 pounds. So I started riding. I rode a mountain bike I had sitting around here and then I bought a used road bike. I'm not ready to ride a century or anything. I'm just doing about 20 to 40 miles a week. But the riding has really helped get the weight loss moving again and I'm slowly increasing my distance on the my longer weekend rides.

I lose weight in the spring and maintain during the season. It creeps back up in the fall and winter, but not much. So in March/April I got down to 160 from 170. Now at about 161. Last season I was 165. Next year, I want to be below 160.

'Bout 10 pounds.
But not so much from cycling but from eating right. The cycling is a constant, eating right-er was a change for the better and I think way more important . . . garbage in garbage out!

Sounds like many of us ride with the intent to lose weight. I have to admit that last year, I didn't lose much weight riding...and was around the low 190 mark which was a bit disappointing. Just want to give hope to some that if you ride enough, in my experience the weight will come off.
It probably still is 70% what you eat and 30% exercise...at least that seems to be about the ratio for me.
There was a thread around here a while ago that I found interesting. The somewhat simple question posed in the opening thread was...is cycling a good way to lose weight?
Many of the responses surprised me but made sense. Many said not really...for the simple fact that for many, the more you ride, the more you naturally eat therefore net weight doesn't change. I will say that this is true to a point. But for me at least, if I start riding over 150 miles a week, I don't seem to stuff my face as much as the benefit of ridng takes weight off. Also, probably the more I ride the faster I can ride which no doubt also increases calorie consumption.
I kind of like being bicycle skinny...not ridiculous but on the thinner side.
Congrats to all you guys that have succeeded on battling weight gain.

170 to 150 may-september. I really didn't want it to happen, but it just does with cardio and a good healthy diet.

Haven't had the best year of riding, this heat wave in N. Texas has been kicking my rear. Can't convince myself to go ride in 105 degree heat in the evenings. That said, since I got back from Austin in late February when I got back from NAHBS I'm down about 15lbs, another 15 or so to go to my goal.

Depends on the event I guess...I'm pretty fat right now at 163ish. Training is kind of in limbo ever since I hurt my knee.
If there's some kind of event with a lot of climbing I'll drop to 155. If I was really serious I could ride at 150, but my girlfriend wouldn't like it.

I've lost about 25 lbs since the start of this year. I am aiming for another 5 before the end of year. Like some have mentioned above, I, too, cut out sugars almost completely (I like at least half a packet of sugar in my morning coffee from time to time). I've been trying to limit fast food intake to once a month, but sometimes I lose my inhibition. Guilty.

Five years ago, when I started riding I went from about 200 / 6' down to 177. I'd like to be around 170 but I like beer, cheese, chocolate and happy hour too much. I'm doing Cycle Oregon next week and should loose a few if I don't eat like a PIG.

150 to 141 March-September. 4-5 hour 17-20 mph avg rides burn alot of calories. Autumn thru early spring I do 6.0 miles in 40 minutes on an elliptical. Always get back up to 150 by March. Wish I wasn't such a wuss and rode in the winter.

Started the year at 152. Started riding the trainer inside after New Years and transitioned outside in March. Got my first roadbike in May. I'm down to 135 right now. My legs are definitely larger and I have visible abs for the first time since I was 17.
I'm 5'9" as a reference.

I've lost 35 pounds since last summer, from 200 to 165. Most of my weight loss is due to running though. I started running in hopes I would get better on my mountain bike. It worked, so now I want to get a road bike for fun and run for fitness. I might sell the mtb. I'd like to lose another 10 pounds, but it's going to be tough.

I'm 5' 9", 35yrs old. I was 155-160lbs and in great shape just before I got married and started my career. As time went on, work and homelife saw me creep up to 170-175. The worst has been the last two years with my wife being pregnant, then the new baby, and work getting crazy; it's embarassing to say but I reached 202 before saying enough is enough. It's probably one of the worst feelings for someone who has generally always been thin, so I decided that this year was my year to really get back into shape.
I've lost 22lbs since May and I'm now down to 180, regained a lot of lost muscle tone, and cardio has vastly improved again. I've also surpassed this year's other goal of being able to ride 80-90km without feeling worn out and I'm actually working on 100-110km rides now. My weight goal for the end of the season (around mid-October/November for me) is 175 and then 165 next year.
I've never been one to use a trainer through the winter but I'm picking one up in October and have already worked out a training plan. I refuse to let myself get fat again.

I started biking in April and have dropped from 195 or a little more to 183. In the 6 months before that I had dropped from 218 by using an elliptical over the winter. Mileage over the summer has been about 1,500 since Memorial Day. By the way, I went from 135/85 on blood pressure meds to 120/70 without, and I can't wait to see what my cholesterol has fallen to since hitting borderline high last October.

Started riding again in May, have lost almost 30 lbs so far. I'm equipped with cold weather cycling gear so I plan on riding until the snow falls in November/December. Figure I can lose the rest of the weight by then if I stick to my 1000 calorie a day net diet. Which is easy to do when I burn 1,000+ calories riding, not so easy when I don't go out on a ride.

No more than 5. I was 140 max during the winter, and now I'm 135. I lose my winter weight pretty easily and always hover at 134-135. 5"8' Tall, 19. No more than 8% body fat, and that's a generous guess, probably closer to 5%.
