89 Schwinn Tempo rear tire max width?
Would anyone be able to tell me the maximum rear tire width that would fit on a 1989 Schwinn Tempo. I am looking to purchase a Tempo but would like to fit it with the maximum width tires front and rear. I am hoping that a 32mm will work.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Former Tempo owner here.
27mm is likely the maximum, and only if your rims are absolutely true and hop-free. 32mm might work for the fork, but won't work for the rear triangle.

A friend has a tempo as a beater/commuter. I'm pretty sure they are running cheap 25c nashbar tires (they refuse to buy "nice tires." don't ask, lol.) Most of the "race" frames in that market segment/time period are going to max out at 25mm or 26mm. Any larger, and you risk getting road debris jammed up between your tire and brake caliper. The only way you're going to get 32mm is through a classic touring frame, or a mid-90s hybrid. I'd recommend the latter; there are some hybrid frames that had nicer tubing and more aggressive geometry.

It might make a nice 650b conversion where you possibly could run 38s.
