I want a BMX bike
My newest thing is that I want a BMX bike. I don't want to ride with the kids or impress the teeny boppers. But I do want to go out in the street and hop curbs and play around like I did as a kid. Does anyone else in the 50+ thread play around on a BMX? I have a mountain bike but I want A 22" to play around on.

There's a guy I see on the local MUP most days, he's probably just around 50, and he rides a BMX. Now, he is also exercising his german shepherd dog (off leash) and the BMX small bike allows him more control, I think, in terms of speed and riding circles when the dog is putzing around and following him when he goes off-path. But the guy does jump up on the wood box seats, etc., and do some stunts. I don't think anyone thinks much about it either way. If he fell on his butt when he was doing his stunts, maybe people would notice his age, but he's pretty good. So - just get good at it and people will think "dang, not bad for an old guy" lol.

Wheels are the "size" for BMX , since you dont sit down while riding..
20, 24 and 26" wheels .. ( no 22")
Trials bikes dont even have a saddle..

I was involved with BMX when my teen son raced at Waterford Oaks with the '81 SE Racing looptail PK Ripper. We would set up our motorhome for niceties and Inwas his pitman. Fun times. He still has that bike, too. They are getting quite rare and valuable.

Thats actually kinda cool, I think. From what I understand the top tube lengths determine the size for a rider. Fit bike has one with a 22" wheel. And I think DK does also. There is a local BMX bike shop here that I looked at the 22" wheel Fitbike. I am pretty sure I will end up with it. It's just fun to hop on a bike and play around out front without really going anywhere.

I just turned 56. most of my time is on a road bike nowdays but I took up bmx again @ 47, after many yrs of MTB. couple of times per week is all my torn knee ligaments can handle but keeps me more flexible overall. mostly practice manuals. tell ppl i keep doing bmx for upper body strength & I hate the gym, as if they care... plus i enjoy wrenching on custom builds.

i have one.....
i bought one, a schwinn bmx. I use it during my lunch time to get a workout. It fits into my van and I can sneak out for 45 minutes to my favorite bike path. It is pretty uncomfortable after a while- hard on the back. It takes me back to when I was young, I'm 48. I also put on mag wheels too!

What the heck is a 22" wheel? Are there multiple sizes of 22" wheels? If it's newly-created, then probably not.

I like bikes
My kid raced bmx a few years ago, so I built up a 24" cruiser class bmx bike for myself. Put the seat pretty high so I could actually sit (not a racing setup).
It was a fun bike to ride around on, for a while. Although big bmx pedals bite... ouch! Gears & proper seat height is sooo much more efficient!

Sounds like fun. Stolen Bike Co and a couple others still make new BMX bikes. Prices seem reasonable.
I don't know anything about BMX bikes but I have a pair of Stolen Thermalite pedals in blue for my '92 Univega mountain bike with blue over black splatter paint. I like 'em. Grippy platform pedals, work fine with all my shoes ranging from Merrell cycling shoes to Herman Survivor winter boots. I like 'em well enough I plan to get another set in red for my red comfort hybrid.

I had a Red Line 24 bmx bike. It was fun but the tires are just so small.
They have a hard time rolling over anything thicker than a pencil.
I think a 26 dirt jump bike would have been more fun.
