Convert Suntour Superbe Pro from 126mm to 120mm
Hi all
I have some a great wheelset built around some early 1980s Suntour Superbe Pro hubs. They are 126mm hubs but I would like to fit now on a frame with only 120mm rear triangle. It also cannot be cold set any wider.
Is it possible to narrow these by removing spacers and nuts etc and then redishing the wheel?
Thanks
Arb

Yes. You will have to redish the wheel as well.

Yeah, it's a simple job. All you have to do is replace the spacer on the drive side with a spacer(s) 6mm shorter, cut 6mm off the axle (file a bevel and deburr), and re-dish the wheel. Note that all changes happen to the drive side only. Leave the NDS intact during surgery. Wheel will be stronger.

You may need to shorten the axle. If the ends of the axle extend past the dropout faces, the quick release will be unable to secure the wheel.

...probably you already realize this, but you'll also need to go to a narrower freewheel (five's are the most commonly available).
