Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Castelli Sorpasso Bib Tights vs Sorpasso 2

guys - does version 1 or 2 have a big difference? Far lower cost on backcountry for just the sorpasso

Also what's the difference between the bib tights and knickers

Thx

Just looks like the new version to me.
Knickers go just below the knee, tights go to your ankles.

My honest assumption is not much other than cut. I don't own either, I have some nanoflex 2 from them. I believe @TimothyH has some of them, maybe he can chime in here.

Knickers don't have shoulder straps (unless they're bib knickers).

Sorpasso 2 apparently added a lumbar support band.

The fabric sees few changes to the strategic panels that made up previous years' Sorpasso bibs, since it uses the same fabrics as before, but that isn't to say that nothing is different. The most notable change to the bibs occurred on the back. Increasing support, a lumbar band improves the fit and comfort in the saddle for increased support when you're grinding out long winter miles.

I don't know what else is different.

I own the Sorpasso Wind Bib Tights. They are extremely small. I had to size up two sizes.

Call or email Kyle Livingston a Backcountry.801.736.4337 klivingston@backcountry.com. He should be able to find the difference between Sorpasso and Sorpasso 2 and will send you multiple sizes. They only charge you for the one you keep and give you a free UPS label to ship back what doesn't fit. I have them send multiple sizes and ship back what doesn't fit all the time.

This is the most important thing to know when buying Castelli.

They are so small that seams will rip trying to put them on.

Up two sizes is definitely the rule. I think for Castelli, someone who is "extra large" is like 6' tall and 175 lbs.

I bought some of the Sorpassos (non Wind) tights from CC last month.. XL and I'm 6'2" / 185lbs. Good fit for me. At $80 (at the time) seemed like a no-brainer. My only niggle is that the straps somehow seem a bit 'cheap' in quality.. they work, it's just a feel thing when putting them on or handling them. Once biking, they seem forgotten.

OTOH: Bought a Perfetto convertible jacket also.. a few months prior. In Jackets, I fit the XXL, but perhaps because I usually will have a couple layers underneath (base + jersey).

Are you all going by the letter size, like M L XL when you're looking at these? Or are you using measurements? I've not got about 9 castelli garments now, and using the measurement chart has proved accurate for me. I'm a M in their jerseys and bibs. I wear S in specialized jerseys and M in their bibs.I actually ordered some jerseys in L based on all of the warnings online, but they were too big and had to be sent back for mediums.

The reason is that the sizing for Castelli goes up in smaller increments for each size label, than for other brands. For example, Castelli chest size for M to L to XL goes (rounded off) from 38, to 39, to 41 inches. Other brands often give a larger range for each size. Eg. Pearl Izumi M=37.5-40", L = 40.5" x 43.5", XL = 43.5-46.5". That's why you see confusion on the forums. If you're a smaller size, eg. a Medium, size is consistent to other brands. If you're an XL Pearl Izumi, you may need a 3XL size (listed as for 45" chest) in Castelli.

So, think of castelli sizing as more custom and specific.
