Durango Classic Bicycle Ride
Now that I'm back in Durango full time, I wanted to see how many others in Southwest Colorado suffer from the same affliction?
On Sunday, June 2nd I'm organizing a classic bicycle ride.
Coffee and bike ogling at 9:30 AM with the ride starts at 10 AM from Bread, which is a local bakery located towards the north end of town. The route will follow County Road 250, which is a quiet 2 lane road usually filled with bicycles on the weekends.
The ride will be an out and back from Bread to Baker's Bridge, which is about 25 miles.
This is a low-key, no drop, retro ride loosely following Eroica bicycle eligibility rules:
· Bicycles built prior to 1988 or modern steel built with traditional methods
· Down tube friction shifting preferred over index shifting, STI, or Ergo “brifters”
· Traditional brake levers preferred over aero brake levers
· Traditional pedals, toe clips and straps preferred over clipless pedals
Classic steel road racing, touring, or randonneur bikes with European pedigrees are encouraged, as well as, tubular tires, wool jerseys, and leather shoes.
However, anyone with a steel bike or has an interest in classic bicycles is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Andy, keep us posted with how it goes. I’m only in Durango part time nowadays, and won’t be back until later in June.
That’s a good ride, I usually start north of BB, ride down to Durango Coffee (or whatever they’re calling themselves now) and then head back.

Bikemig good luck with your ride. Thank you to Horatio and Steve for the encouragement and interest. I will let folks know how it all went.
Wildwood (Stuart) I started a new job about 5 weeks ago letting me live and work from home. I'm going to miss my C&V friends and all the great riding in the PNW. However, I left a bicycle with Mr. Freeman with the hope and plan to come back for visits!
Here is a view from Baker's Bridge looking south at the Animas River Valley about 13 miles north of Durango I took last week, which is the turn around for the ride.

We just set one up in Phoenix AZ as well. Going to be the second Sunday of every month. The first one is June 9th leaving at 7:00 am from Regroup Coffee and Bikes in Scottsdale. It's posted on their Strava page for anyone wanting to see the route

Looks like a good ride, I can practically smell the piñons from here. I wish I could be there, rather than making beds and cleaning shower stalls all Sunday.
That gives me a good idea for a vintage bike nerd T-Shirt: "Bob Freeman is Babysitting my 'nago" (Or Moto, or DeRosa, you get the idea.)

First Ride in the Books
Today was Durango's first classic bike ride. 14 people attend the 25 mile ride, which exceed my expectations. The weather was perfect, everyone rode safely, and based on the smiles everyone had a good time. We had a nice variety of American, British, French, Italian, and Japanese classic steel bikes. The group consensus was to hold another ride in about a month! Here is most of the group on Baker's Bridge.
