Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Noob Shoes

noob. shoes.

i have 2 road bikes.

jamis ventura comp 07 and an 06 k2 mod 4.0

i am going to commute (30-40) to work on the jamis and use the k2 all other rides...ie the jamis has a rack, will have lights, etc.

the jamis has flat pedals w/clips on the other side

and the k2 has just clips...so.

should i buy 1 pair road shoes and 1 pair mtb shoes (for when i have to stop and go into a store or something)? or just 1 pair of shoes?

You can get road shoes with small amounts of tread front and back so you can walk in them. It's not super-comfortable but you won't fall on your ass walking on tile, either. Only drawback is they usually only work with SPD cleats due to the tread in the toe area. You can't easily convert them, either. But there are good road pedals out there that use SPD-style cleats or mounts, like the Crank Bros Quattro.

What is this, 1980? Go clipless, you'll love it!

Seriously, which do you ride more? Figure it out based on budget and what you're wanting to do. My only advice: don't buy cheap shoes.
