My 1950 Raleigh Superbe "Sports Tourist" was in a shed for 30-40 years. Original Dunlop tire on the rear wheel. The photo (sorry it isn't very good) makes it look a little better than it was. Quite nasty. I don't think it had ever seen service. When I took the hubs and bottom bracket apart, the horror! Now, it is in prime shape.

Darn Covid

Discovered I don't have any extra shifter cables (had to polish old ones with sandpaper) and only one set of black bar tape so ordered more.
Will install new bar tape tomorrow. Cream paint will be hard to match.

For now larger frame is done. It doesn't seem to meet catalogue specs but owner swears he bought both bikes at same time from same store and did nothing to them. Anyone hazard guess on year?

I have four bikes with those shifters and hyperglide cassettes. Smoothest shifting.

Finished reconditioning this 1987 Raleigh Tecnhium 420. Spent a lot of time reviving the badly oxidized paint. Ditched the stem siifters and turkey levers for indexed Shimano Light Action and trusty Dia Compe QR levers. The final result was much nicer than expected and rode surprisingly well. Very impressed with the shifting of the Light Action RD Really doesn't belong in my stable so I sold it to a young man on a budget wanting to try cycling. Ought to be perfect for him.

I had it all apart but didn’t think to look. I don’t recall any mark to speak of. I can tell you the bare fork weighed 830g and had a 27.0 crown race.

Getting done with a pair of his-n-hers early-'70's Western Flyer (Murray-built) 5-speeds; these had been in a heated warehouse for at least the past 20 years, possible longer. The seller says his grandparents bought them, and they both died many years ago. All I had to do was clean and lube; new tires and brake pads, along with some cable adjustments. I know these are nothing special, but they are survivors. Not many of these left, especially in this condition.

Picked this up as part of a package deal with the express intent of flipping it to pay for the other bike it came with.



Finally got a chance to work on it and finished it yesterday and listed it last evening. Sold in less than 18 hours.

Picked up 2 wheelsets and one was a Mavic G40. Tommasini needed a wheelset upgrade.

Then reworked into a touring bike by having cantilever brake mounts and cable stop, and rear rack mounts on the seatstays, plus a third water bottle brazeon mounts under the downtube brazed on.

I posted this in the "Saved from the dump" thread a couple of months ago and there has since been an update. I refurbed this '85 Schwinn Sprint for a close friend who wishes to get into shape and start cycling. He had it until a couple of days ago when he gave it back to me. It turns out that he just couldn't get used to DT shifters. It is in great shape, I swapped out a bunch of parts and put on a spare 700c wheelset. It even has the LBS sticker still on it and the owner is still in business and remembers selling a few of these. Luck has it that I saved another bike recently from Public Works guys who were about to throw it in the back of their dump truck while cleaning a city park. This one is a brifter-equipped 2009 Specialized Allez in great condition so the swap was made. Now to find a new owner for this Schwinn...

1987 Prelude frameset donated by @mstateglfr. I drewed the top tube guides, pump peg, fender eyelets, and the rear derailleur cable stop. I added a new diver helmet cable stop courtesy of @gugie, and I spread the rear triangle to 130mm. The decals are laser jet DIY. I plan to build with as many Italian components as I can scrounge from the parts bin.. the rest will be Japanese from same said bin.

The '82 912 is on its third crankset in less than a year. Not that the first two didn't work well. I really love the Triomphe. But when I recently picked up a Chorus crank on a flip, I had to use it on one of my bikes. Hopefully it will work out on the Miyata with its new Token cartridge bb. And I also scored a Brooks Pro and some Victory pedals.
