...my friend Jack, (who sold me a couple of his bikes,) was big on all original. He even insisted on original tyres, if the bike came with them.
The good thing about the bikes he sold me is that he never rode them, given the good chance those tyres would give up somewhere along the way.
This was Jack's Carlton Catalina before it became mine.

Decades ago I bought a pair of Campy NR high flange hubs for $20. The spoke holes had been drilled oversize so they were fairly useless until mountain bikes were invented. I present my bombproof Campy/Araya with 105ga. spokes.

-I have used non-Campagnolo grease on Campagnolo components, even though I have a tub of Campagnolo grease.
-I will be using Shimano chainrings on an otherwise fully Suntour Sprint equipped bike.
-I am currently running wheels with Shimano Dura Ace hubs on an otherwise fully Campagnolo SR/NR / Italian equipped Colnago Super.
-On the aforementioned Colnago Super, I rode with a Sugino Mighty two bolt fluted seatpost because I like the fluting (and it was considerably lighter than the Campagnolo post), and do not have a fluted Campagnolo Record seatpost. I swapped that back to the non fluted Campagnolo seatpost after a while, as I felt guilty about the Sugino post being on the bike.

Ok, especially after I razzed Andy this morning... My shame shame, on full display. This is a Super Record, Gt cut out BB, bought without the fork. My solution?
A carbon fork... With blue masking tape, no less. See below
Now, over 4 years later... Yep - a different carbon fork, and a better job with the blue masking tape.
5 minutes ago. In line for some changes. New Vitus is on the left. Nobody ever comments on the tape, (maybe they are just too shocked or polite to say anything...). I do have a silver Professional that is straight up SR. I'm not completely beyond the pale.

I confess to being a pedal downgrader. On multiple bikes I have removed clip-in, toe clips with leather straps, and mini toe clips.
My preferred pedals are older Atom or KKT.
This is the only way we ride, so bring on your "comfy chair" or "soft pillows"..

On my 1983 Trek 700 I switched out the Suntour Superbe downtube shifters to stem mounted ratcheting shifters on the higher angled dirt drop stem. I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror after awhile and switched it back to the downtube shifters and standard stem.

My only defense is that it had no fork, and I thought of the carbon as a prosthesis, to enable it (the bike), and even make it more capable, by making it lighter, (think Six Million Dollar Man). "We can rebuild you, Steve"... It was a rescue. That's all I've got, in my defense. Love of the brand. I have 2 ridable, and 3 more "rescued" frames
