Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Everyone with half a brain recognizes there is a possibility the unusually rapid development may have been politicized in some way. You just have to trust that the safeguards built into the system have not been circumvented TOO much. Only time will tell, really. But as has been mentioned earlier your odds may be better to take it, especially if you’re in the high risk category. If I was a medical professional working day in and day out with covid patients, there is no question I would take it.

Abso-froggin-lutely!

I checked one of those "Where are you in line" thingies, and despite being 63, hypertensive, and working in an essential business, I'm WAY down the list. I'm okay with that. I want my niece the doctor to get it before me.

My friend who crashed yesterday had his hip fracture fixed today. I am told it went well and he may be up with a walker later today.

I hadn't seen one of these, yet, so I sought out the NYTimes estimate. Nationally, they're putting me at 269 millionth in line. In MN, I'm in the last 10%. I'm fine with that.

That's the one I used.

The sad thing is, we very well may double the current total deaths before we finally get this damn thing under control.

Don’t they always mobilize you immediately to reduce the DVT risk? I hear that schlepping around on the first PODs is the worst part.

Got in a pie calorie offsetting ride this morning. Friggin' cold. Well, my feet were friggin' cold - it took a good 30 minutes of warming up at home for my toes to not feel like ice blocks. I guess that my regular socks and the ol' neoprene booties aren't enough for 2 hour at a little over 20°. Might need to pick up some chemical warmers for future road bike rides at these temps and lower. When the roads are no longer clear, and I have to ride the gravel bike with studs, hopefully I'll be fine just wearing my winter boots (I've got two-sided pedals on it, SPD/Flats).

Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis

Anyone taking glucocorticoid medicine must get enough calcium and vitamin D. The American College of Rheumatology recommends you should take at least 1,200 mg of calcium and 800 to 1,000 International Units (called IU) of vitamin D supplements each day. Your doctor may measure the vitamin D level in your blood to find out if you need more vitamin D supplementation.

I took the NYT thing to see where I was in line and I'm way in the back too. Stupid healthiness is screwing me over.

In other news, I would take the vaccine without any reservation.

Eesh.

I don't want to get in to P&R weeds, but a recently elected Congressmen just dubbed this "a phony pandemic. It's a serious virus, but it's a virus, not a pandemic..."

So stupid on many levels.

The doggies don't want to go out in the backyard in the rain, but they still want us to take them for walks. Mrs. GeneJockey and I hypothesize that they believe it's always sunny outside the front door, because we only take them out that way when it's not raining.
