paint chips, patches

hi all - so what is the best method for touching up ugly paint chips/patches on my steel frame? - my nice blue frame has a couple of obvious through to the silver metal patched and even though its not the end of the world, they just bug me.

both the laquer and the paint have been chipped away,

thanks all!

I have found that fingernail enamel is great for such touch-up work. Many blue shades are available, you can probably find a close match to your frame.

I don't like them (chips and scratches) but they do add character! If you don't like finger nail polish, try the model airplane paints or auto touch up paints. Then clear coat for better protection.

It sounds like the original paint wasn't very good, particularly if a large patch came off with the FD clamp. How valuable is this frame and how much do you like it? If it's a high quality frame in otherwise good condition it might be worth the cost to have it completely stripped and powder coated.

Auto parts store touch up paint if you can find a match. Spread it on in thin layers and let dry between. In the winter, this might take a few days. Then, sand it smooth with 2000grit sandpaper. Then hand rub it with rubbing compound. It should look good.

Stickers if it's not worth it.

There's "perfect paint match" and there's "not exactly". "Not exactly" usually draws your eye to the blemish that you're trying to cover up.
