First ride over 10 miles in 20-plus years!

I didn't think it would happen so quick, as it came just a week after I got my new bike and I'm at least 50 pounds heavier since the last time I rode that far (not to mention being a couple of decades older). Before last weekend, I hadn't been on a bike of any sort (other than stationary) since maybe 2003.

Doing it with my wife and daughter was especially sweet. We went to a local trail through the rocky hills in our part of Arizona to ride until we felt like turning and going back. We ended up going more than 5 miles before we made that decision.

I was proud of myself, but even more proud of my 11-year-old daughter, who did it on her little single-speed Walmart special without a single complaint. In the last few hundred yards she was standing up and pedaling as hard as she could, trying to beat her mother across the finish line. She'll be getting a "real bike" for Christmas.
