1. Are you sure you have sufficient sealant in the tire.
2. Is the sealant fresh ( My definition..... < 3 months old )

If the shard was only toothpick sized and not a sidewall, I’d expect the patient to make a full recovery.

I saw a TV program where the doctors had to decide whether to remove a bullet that was perilously close to a patient's spinal cord. Leave it in, and he could become paralyzed (or not). Attempt to remove it, and he could become paralyzed, die from complications, or make a recovery. I was entranced.

This thread has been like that. Except for the dramatic music, of course...

I managed to get it out of there, took out a little chunk of tread with it. Still holding air.

Because I lost sealant to the leak, or because it's been six months since the sealant was added? Your advice frightens and confuses me...

The Stans instructions state... "Will last 2-7 months, depending on conditions. For best results inspect sealant every 3-4 weeks. Arid climates and storage areas may require more frequent replenishment."

I draw mine out every 3 months and replace with fresh.
I live in CA which is a little "arid".

After yet another (nearly) sleepless night pondering this dilemma, this morning I decided to test the old dictum "The Enemy Of Good Is Better." So I went to the garage, strapped a headlamp on my forehead, procured a pair of fine-tipped forceps, and pulled the little glass shard out of the tire. It was a small bugger, about the size of a wooden toothpick head. As soon as I removed it there was a hiss of white liquid air- sealant. This did not stop. I attached the pump and kept re-filling the tire to a pressure of about 30 PSI, while orienting the puncture side down so that the sealant inside would pool over the hole and (I hoped) plug it. But the hissing and bubbling continued. For about five minutes, Then it stopped. I pumped the tire up to 50 PSI (My riding pressure) and the leak resumed, but only for a minute or so.

It's been three hours and on repeated pressure checks the tire has remained at 50 PSI.

I am looking for some SuperGlue to instill into the tiny crack in the rubber.

Tonight, I will sleep well.

Thank you.
Go online and check out the Dynaplug website. It works great and is simple to use. It is a great follow-on to use when sealant doesn’t solve the problem.

What, are you all hunkered down and stuck at home!

On second inspection, it was not a glass shard at all - it was plastic. Should I have removed it? Could it have been left in? Plastic will, eventually, wear down and degrade, yes? Maybe that was the correct thing to do, I don;t know. Hope to hear everyone's comments and suggestions. Thanks!
