Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

You're gonna have to do better than that.

Ritchey Swiss Cross, Bikes direct, Genisis croix de fer (the latter may be more of a gravel bike).

The BD Whipshot is a great deal. Reynolds 853 frame and Force 1 group for $1800 and it's actually a really nice looking bike which is hit or miss for BD branded bikes:

Yeah, if you don't need the latest frame technology (i.e. if you like steel, lol), BD is a great deal (assuming you are good with bike fit). I had their aluminum cross bike and really enjoyed it. Wasn't any better or worse than any other similar aluminum bike (Fuji, Trek, Specialized), although it cost a lot less. The one above even comes with a nice wheelset. The only complaint about mine was that it didn't have a lot of flexibility in wheel size, but looks like the whipshot above can take 40mm tires.

If price is no object, look up a local frame builder and ask them to build your dream bike.
There are seemingly endless steel offerings that we could throw your way without any idea of if it would be good or not.

A quality steel tube 3 speed drop bar gravel bike for Florida without budget?...that has custom written all over it.

Or follow them on eBay, they have some pretty rad deals on there as well. Not always in the right size though, so patience is required.

If just looking at frames, then keep the Hybrids in mind.

I have a 520 Chromoly double butted steel Jamis Coda that I've done a drop bar conversion on.
