Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Replying with quote....

How do you highlight a portion of someone's quote when replying? Just want to reply to a portion of it.

Select color gray for the entire quote (between quote things) then black for the part you want..that's what I do anyway.

Delete the portion you don't want to quote. Leave the other parts.

Highlight the portion you want and make it bold.

you have to go to your control panel and make sure you have selected an editor other than the default "basic editor" (bottom of the "edit options" page).

i think that when i registered, the basic editor was the only option.

Highlighting is a waste of time and a waste of space. Delete all other unecessary text that don't contribute to a quote and there's your "highlight".

Depends on the situation. If you highlight a portion, and leave the rest, you can focus on what you want to respond to, but also have the original context still present.

If there's a concern that you're taking the OP out of context, then highlighting is a way to deal with it.

Wrong. If you know the markup for it you can write it directly into the "reply with quote" box. You don't even need the basic editor to do this. When I registered, there was no such thing as a quick reply box.
