Is half an hour enoough to digest?
Lately I haven't been able to digest breakfast ( average size bowl of cereal) for more than half an hour before I head out for a 90 min session. During these rides I get gassy and belch and even cramp ever so slightly. Is this really not that good for the system or should I just eat a bit less and punch through it. I can't wake up any earlier and I can't leave home for work any later...any thought guys/gals?

Everyone's body is different. I suggest trying 45 minutes....or a lighter breakfast.

you could always slam down a couple of GU gels instead...although that could get pricey.

It may just be the milk (if you're eating cereal with milk). Try something else that doesn't involve dairy products.

How about getting up at the same time but leaving earlier, then eating breakfast on arrival at work?
I've no medical background, but that sort of digestive discomfort can't be good on a regular basis.

hmm- definitely good advice. I just about incinerated some of my team guys last weekend when i chugged a small carton of milk a few minutes before a race. They were not happy and they no longer accept any of my requests to bring milk.

I avoid dairy before rides because I get gassy as well, so I just have a cereal bar with some juice and I'm fine until the end of my commute which is only 14 miles. I eat lunch 2 hours before I leave to make sure I don't have a full stomach as that can be pretty uncomfortable.

I just microwave about 1.5 cups of Oatmeal and soymilk for about 1.5 minutes. Bananas or Raisins etc. to spruce it up and it last a long time, and I don't get gassy (at least any more than usual) or even hungry for a couple of hours at least. It's the same breakfast that I have every day, but it's enough food that it keeps me going whether I'm riding hard or not.
Of course, I eat again immediately after most rides.

Eat and drink light and then let digest for 1\2 hour prior to start.

I'm not very tolerant of milk but I can eat a couple hot dogs right a few minutes before a hot (90 deg F), humid (80+% humidity), 30 mile crit, drop both my bottles in the first two laps, and be fine. I didn't even feel queasy.
Of course I wouldn't try that again, but at that time, at that moment, it worked out fine.
I'd follow some of the other suggestions like skipping the milk or eating something else. A protein shake would work well too, works for me - suppresses appetite, has some calories (270 according to the package), and no milk so it sits well with me. I use such shakes to kick off 3-5 hour rides with no problems.
