Need help ID 5 Campy FD's clamp ons types.
I have been making a xls of my spare parts and want to get the correct info.

The rightmost is the new newest, and the thickening and rolling of the frontal cage edges screams "Consumer Product Safety Commission" to me. CPSC forced several changes to components, and even to frame-fork geometry (no more toe-to-tire overlap -- can't have that! I guess I shouldn't have been riding my UO-8, with its aftermarket fork, all these years.).

My UO-8 with barcon cables routed between the rack and the cylindrical Bellwether front bag.

Thanks for the help, I will do more research ... quick look at the link:

On Left:
Super Record" with 3 holes in outer plate (c. 1981 to 1986). I believe all units were probably available into 1987 (except "Record" 4 hole cage).

On Right:
Gran Sport/Nuovo Gran Sport" no holes in outer plate (c. 1977 to 1986)

The three in the middle are all Record from about 1973-1977. No lip (so pre-1978), and they have circlips, and the reinforced knuckles which came in I think about 1973.

so think back to the 70s / 80s when these units were made. Individual parts were machined, cast, chromed, stamped, whatever.

and arrived on the final assembly line in bins. Cages, clamps, arms, etc.

Do you suppose that they just stopped making type 3s when the type 4 knuckles (for example) came along ?

no. they used up the parts in inventory. so it's really no wonder there are so many variations.

Have you ever heard the "Barber shop story" about Campagnolo components ? Campagnolo Barber Shop Parts — Velo Aficionado

explains a lot about the "mysterious" mis-matched component versions. A hold over from an earlier time.
