Well, I don't have a bike yet. Around a decade ago I used to drive Milkman cycle a lot, I went to school and many other places on it. Milkman cycles are quite rough and tough but they are very inefficient and unconfortable and all of the years I thought cycling is no fun:

I am computer programmer, hence i have to sit on chair all day and write programs. Because of lack of exercise, I decided to buy a cycle for commuting. I went to a shop to buy my milkman cycle but when I saw some MTBs I was blown away by the level of comfort during test driving. I love Hard-Tail rather than FS (FS is not as comfortable as a Hard-Tail on Indian roads) but because they are way expansive I am planning to buy one of these:

Cycling is Hyderabad is mostly on roads but if you Google for Indian roads, you will see the real picture of roads the deadly traffic conditions:

When it rains then every roads looks like those pictures, many don't even need rain at all. Some roads are very good and totally unaffected by rains etc but they are rare. Most of the time we have to drive in this traffic and on these road conditions. Last 2 pictures are from my city Hyderabad where I will riding on a cycle (in India bike = motorcycle).

May be you can advise on what kind of cycle should I buy for commuting.
