To the Moon!
There's probably a thread somewhere on the topic, but I couldn't find it.
So I have a silly question ... have you guys/gals any idea of your total lifetime mileage? I've never bothered keeping track of my yearly mileage ... I just estimate it based on how often I commute and the kind of weekend rides I'm doing. And to be honest, I've never really cared what the exact mileage was.
But now I'm wondering if I should have kept track. I ride about 10,000 miles a year, and have been doing it for 20+ years. I recently got to thinking about that and realized that means that I've pedaled a good part of the distance to the moon.
I know there are apogee/perigee issues to contend with, but I'd be willing to call it good when I got to the average distance of 238,800 miles ... If I knew for sure what my mileage was.
I'm sure there are others on this list who've ridden longer distances for more years. Anybody have any estimates for their lifetime mileage? Maybe we need a "moon jersey" to commemorate the milestone. lol

Total lifetime... no. Heck in the old days... speedometers were big clunky heavy things connect to the front wheel by a cable. I never thought of recording such stats till I returned to cycling in 2010. Since then I've logged just under 10K on two of my bikes (others haven't had a computer). I was hoping to live long enough to log the 25K required for a circle of the Earth.

Have you really thought about how much climbing there'd be to ride to the Moon? Might be too much even for you. Then there'd be another problem in 20+ years to ride back - but that would be easier downhill.

During some of the middle years, I was promoted at work and wasn't able to ride much. Then I had some health issues in the early 2000s. I retired in 2005 and my mileage picked back up again.

Have covered over 240,000miles on tandem bicycles with my wife since 1975.
Have covered another 100,000 on singles.
In the 'old days' we used a Lucas cyclometer to measure our distance . . . remember those?
Averaged 10,000+ miles a year here in Arizona.
Now at age 82, have cut it down a bit to 5,000 miles a year.
Pedal on!

And for the jersey deco you could use the photo you took (hopefully) on the Dead of Winter Double Century last weekend as we rode North on PCH watching the moonlight as it was shimmering off the ocean. Stunning, I would say!

I track my mileage on bikejournal.com and have for several years. That helps motivate me to ride more. Were it not for that, I wouldn't have a clue. And it wouldn't occur to me that it mattered. How many miles have I walked in my lifetime? I don't know, and can't think why I'd want to know...
