Burley Koosah
Hello everyone- I would really like to get my feet in the pedals of a Burley Koosah recumbent bike. As you all probably know this recumbent is no longer available and was last manufactured in 2010 I think. If anyone knows of one that comes available please let me know. I am in the Northwest but willing to get it shipped from wherever. Thanks for your help-Jason

Not a very common bike unfortunately. I did a search on Bentrideronline and the last one to come up for sale on that website was in August 2016. Somebody posted a "wanted to buy" for a Koosah last September on Bentrider last September and got an answer within a day. You might check with the owner of this one in Spokane and see it that's the model offered for sale https://spokane.craigslist.org/bik/d...430626406.html

IIRC, the Koosah was one of their 'checkmark' frames, and it looks like that CL posting is also a checkmark frame. What I don't remember is whether the Sand Point in the CL posting was just a different price point? OP could always join BROL and post in the WTB forum.

The Burley Jett Creek was the same LWB frame, just different component group. Keep an eye out for that one as well.

Shown in the CL add was a Sand Point.
from Bicycleman.com:
"The Sand Point sold at a price point lower than Burley has ever attempted before. At $799 retail it looked like a good value but component problems caused Burley to permanently discontinue this model. This bike used the frame, fork, seat, handlebars, wheels and brakes of the Koosah."
Apparently the models of 'checkmark' frames from low to high went: Sand Point > Koosah > Jett Creek

Wow, $800 for an LWB recumbent certainly was a low price point even back then. I wonder what components were the problem. It might still be worth looking at if the only parts not mentioned in the above post are the drive train parts. New derailleurs and shifters are not that expensive.

I was the person searching for a Burley Koosah on Bentrideronline last Fall. I was able to buy a used Koosah from a fellow rider here in the Chicago area.
The Koosah is a great recumbent for riding around town and for some short rides on the weekend. Very easy to learn how to ride it and very comfortable. Not a speed demon for sure, but a solid, fun to ride bike. Too bad they no longer make them.
As suggested earlier, take a look at the Sand Point on the Spokane Craigslist. The Sand Point did have lower quality components than the Koosah >> Jett Creek >> Adirondack. But the ad says that they recently replaced many components, so you should be OK on that front. As an added bonus, the Spokane Sand Point has a rack and basket. Installing these on any of these Burleys normally takes specialized brackets. So you'll be ahead on that front.
Good luck.

I rented it once in Colorado and did the Vail Pass on it. I’d buy one if I could find one locally.

Good luck .. the bike production ceased when the Employee owned company filed for Bankruptcy, and closed.
the current owner of the brand name is getting their trailers made offshore .. no more bikes or rain gear.

Are you sure about that bankruptcy, fietsbob? I don't remember that, and I can't find any reference to Burley going under. AFAIK they got out of recumbents to concentrate on their core products (trailers.) They sold the recumbent designs to Edge Engineering in Tennessee, who has done a lot of tweaking but sold very few bikes.
They may outsource more stuff these days. That's the way of the world.

According to Wiki, Burley changed from a worker-owned cooperative to a private corporation in 2006. No more bikes since then.

Fietsbob,
I have a Burley Koosah just like this and wonder where you got your rack. Also looking for kickstand and flag, any suggestions? Your help is appreciated.

I believe Motionless Motion Cycles in Madison also has a used or old-stock Koosah for sale.

missed the part where I said it's a found picture on the web..
I don't own one, I'd already left town when they were made.
rear rack is like any others, just needs a little DIY to adapt it to fit
Looks like a long piece of aluminum with a few holes drilled for the front..

I am selling my Burley Koosah can anyone who has recently acquired one let me know how much I might be able to get for it.
I'm in Vancouver, WA. if anyone is near by and interested
The bike is in great shape, I bought it new (can't remember the year) if I have to guess I would say it has less than 500 miles on it

I'd say 300 or perhaps 400 tops.
It's a heavy flexy bent with an uncomfortable seat. They just don't appeal to many.

Flexy I surmised just from looking at the picture. Yikes, didn't they know about triangulation in the '90's. On the other hand all those missing frame tubes should have made for a lighter bike. What did they make them with, mild steel??

Yes they did, but some figured that a larger main tube would give a degree of triangulation. It would for a stick frame but once the pedaling forces are applied off the main line, leverage increases geometrically. They could have gone to an even larger diameter, but that would add weight. Their choice was a compromise, geared more for the casual rider as opposed to a performance-oriented customer. Flexing isn't a problem when the frame normally only sees 75-100 watts.

It wasn't a bankruptcy filed for in court or a sheriff's sale, but the US-based employee owned co-op's cost structure proved to not match the realities of international cycle business. Burley experienced several years of unprofitability, and the co-op members sold their real property, intellectual property, branding (i.e. marketable name) and debt to an individual. From the Eugene Register-Guard, September 12, 2006:
