Panasonic Team 1200 Custom-Pain Match/Paint Mystery

Well my local auto paint shop came through again. If you look closely there was a small spot of rust on the top tube and even with 30 years of sun fade, metal flake and pearlesence in the paint this is the match they came up with. Color me thrilled, pun intended. Its funny how light changes the color, it is actually the color in the second picture below, but in a bright light my cell phone camera captures the color you see below, the important part is that the color match seems perfect when looked at with Mark 1 Eyeballs.

Then the painter explained a paint mystery, how this lovely basket weave pattern on the seat tube was created.

He explained that the seat tube was first painted black and then a basket weave pattern was applied over the black. Then at the base of the black seat tube the light purple was applied in a fade which became a solid light purple moving up the seat tube. Then after everything had dried the basket weave pattern was removed leaving the black fade/basket weave pattern with the light purple.

That's a very pretty color and that basket weave really makes it standout nicely. Is the color and weave original? Nice to find an auto paint shop that would take the time to work with you on a color match.

I'd love to see pics of the rest of this bike...

Giacomo 1 yes this is the original color, fade and weave for this bike. To see more pictures look up my prior post:

Someone had a dream…Panasonic – “Team 1200 Custom” (PICS)

I call it my Hot Rod, and yes it's great to have a local shop that will mix a custom pint of matched paint. They have done this a couple times for me in the past and now actually look forward to what I bring in and enjoy talking about the bike.
