My over the top purchase was the embraces "El Chulo" edition. I already had the black G3s on the bike and they are excellent beyond excellent and for the stopping power and weight are not exceptionally over the top (the THM Fibula brakes however are and only drop a few grams). However replacing them with brand new brakes simply for color was a bit silly.
I guess I also got a set of Phil Wood pink anodized hubs which is a touch over the top since I have some fine Dura Ace 7400 hubs on the bike currently but a back up wheelset isn't a bad idea and I could easily sell them and recover some funds.

I absolutely love those brass fenders.
Honjo/Simworks Brass Fenders. They're sort of ridiculously expensive but also they look like they were made for this bike. They're almost certainly the next most expensive thing on the bike outside of the frame (at least if we are considering the wheels individually rather than as a pair- I built them about a year apart so I think that's fair).

There's a thing called Protectaclear, a finish used to protect and prevent metals from tarnish/oxididation. I used it on bronze, silver and copper. Never tried it on brass, but no reason why it wouldn't work. A bit expensive but works really well. Unless of course you want them fenders to patina.
And yeah, them fenders are OTT!

I don't know what's more embarrassing, them valve stem caps or these.
Colored cable end thingys.
Not costly, but I think they are an example of just how far I can go.
OTT?
Actually not that I got em, but look how MANY I have! What the hell was I thinking?
I think they look good, but seriously, what possessed me?
Haven't changed the cables on my bike in like, seven years!

How over the top do you want?
It’s a dull grey frame but that doesn’t mean it has to be a dull bike. I’ve matched just about everything I can with the decal scheme

The stem cap is from Kustom Caps in Cleveland.

If you look closely, you can even see that the spoke nipples match the decals.

What’s really cool about the spoke nipples is that they look like bands of color as the wheel spins.

This is going on, and that FD is coming off........rest of the bike needs a respray or vinyl wrap and is currently kinda ugly. Maybe this will serve as a distraction.

I tend to prefer more classic and understated. A few touches of “gold” are about as bling as I would ever do, typically. But I have been strongly pondering spraying over the origional black enamel on my Raleigh with spray.bike crushed glass paint, for that in your face sparkle under the sunlight. Haven’t worked up the courage to do it yet though. It does have a ‘gold’ connex chain though.
