Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Vittoria EVO Corsa CX vs VeloFlex Carbon

Got my DV46 in, and deciding on some new Tubular Tires.

These would be for racing only. Looking for good grip, nice ride, and low rolling resistance.

What do you guys think of these two?
For the Veloflex should I get the 20 or 22?

I'm 170lbs + 15.5 lb bike.

I suppose the Vittoria Mastik one glue should be fine for both?

Thanks!

Mike

The Corsa's are my favorite tire, although I haven't tried the Veloflex.

I'm a fan of the Tufo Extreme tape (do not get the 'standard' tape). Note that it has a rim side and a tire side to the tape. Put the rim side down first, leave the plastic on the tire side while you mount the tire and center it, then pull the leader to remove the plastic covering from the tire side of the tape. Very quick and easy compared to the glue.

i tried the tape on one set of wheels, but getting the old residue off the tire to put it onto another rim was a downright pain, so I've gone back to glue for all my wheels, carbon and aluminium.

Vittoria glue will be more than adequate for both tires, especially on carbon rims.

i have been more than happy with the Vittoria evo cs and cx tires. light, very confident in corners, track well, decent puncture resistance. lifetime about a year for me (lighter than you, mostly climbing).

but i can't compare against the veloflex as i've never used them... but i prefer them to older contis and cheaper tires like the vittoria rally etc. only minor drawback is they lose a lot of pressure quickly from the skinny latex tubes, while the contis stay hard all night....

Tip with the tape residue is to warm it with a hair dryer.

I'm leaning towards the glue as I'll want to be able to remove the tires and reglue them in case I need to true the wheel. (Nipples are in the rim tire side)

I currently run the Veloflex carbons (22mm) and have used the Corsa CXs for over a decade. Both are good tires that are comparable.

Cant go wrong either way

Wfrogge, how much do you weight?
At 170 +26 lbs bike, should I go with the 20 or 22?
What pressure do you guys run on your tubular?
I've heard of people running insane high pressures.

Also is the presta valve core removable on either of these? I need valve extenders.

Yes to the Vittoria's. I don't know about the others.

I have too many Vittoria's and will be selling some on Ebay soon. Or PM if you want to work something out.

Go with 22mm

I run anywhere from 110 to 150 PSI depending on the roads/event

Pretty sure cores on both brand tires are removable.

Saw the removable cores on the Veloflex site.
Thanks guys,
Think I'm gonna try out some Veloflex carbons!

I would go with the veloflex if you live in an area with nice roads.

The roads I normally ride on are great. Super smooth.

The veloflex are out of stock where I was planning to get them!
Haha... now to wait? or try something new?
Wouldn't mind trying to Schawlabe Ultremo if it was out, or maybe the Zipp Tangente... Something a little different with possibly new / better tech?

Try World Class Cycles, not quite as cheap as PBK, but still a great price, selection and normally everything is in stock.

And of course, if you have the cash, you could try the Dugast or the FMB.

I ride the Ultremo clinchers and am super impressed. I would love to try them in a tubular.

I wouldn't mind trying them either. But I'm not even sure they are even made. Not on the website at least.

I'm pretty sure they exist - I think I've seen them on pro bikes. I contacted Schwalbe and they aren't distributing them, at least in the US, yet.

Maybe wait till I come back from Vacation next week.
Considering the Servio Corsa's, but afraid they won't roll that well with my weight and the psi I will need in the tire.
