Going faster on a Dahon Briza D7
Hi everyone. I have a Briza D7 but find it a bit slow when cycling with others and would like to be able to go faster without compromising my ability to go up hill. I have found threads elsewhere that suggest it is possible to fit a front derailleur to the bike using a large LitePro backet (sorry but I can't post the link due to being a newbie!!)
Could someone with more knowledge than me discuss the pros and cons and explain what I would need in terms of the front crankset etc.to get the desired improvements?

Cheapest option is to replace your cassette with one that will increase your gear range.

@kayakindude I'm a bit of a newbie, bike tech wise, so would that be a cassette with more rings or the same number but of different ratios?

I did upgrade to a 56 tooth crank, but start with the cheapest option. My combo gets me riding comfortably around a 16mph average, so between 12-20 mph based on wind and elevation.

Physics of air resistance is a known factor that can be measured.. going faster, you have more of it..

I was trying to find the cassette specification as it is now, but it seems impossible to find on the web anyway.

Question: is it a "cassette", or is it a "freewheel"? That makes a world of difference for upgradeability. I would know,...

Well the good news is it's a cassette. Bad news is it already has 11 teeth.
Next step is count the number of teeth on your crank. I suspect 52 teeth or less.

The latest version of the Briza D8 has a 46t crank so likely similar, giving max gear inches around 95.
It might be easier/cheaper to fit some lighter weight tyres than the Schwalbe Marathon to gain a few kmh to keep up with friends. Increases the chances of them having to wait while you fix a puncture though.

but, changing the chainring only will affect the capability do go up hill. If current up hill gear is required then , it would need a front derailleur using a bracket, FD twin crankset and chain set (44/56 Road/triathlete set or classic 39/53 road set)

+1, I got Dahon EoS D9, also with 24" tire, stock it got Scwalbe Kojak 24x1.5, I think it would be lighter on pedal compare to stock Briza tire 24x1.75.

True if the OP is not spinning out or barely using the lowest range. I found no issues going my route and still rarely run the lowest cog.
