Campagnolo Dropout Screw Tap

Need to chase new paint from dropout screw threads. Anybody know the tap size? Will post in C&V also. Thanks.

Get yourself some M3 x 30 or so mm socket head stainless cap screws and a couple of matching nuts, they will hold better than the original thumb nuts and springs.

I personally prefer button head and acorn nuts

I intended the nuts to be used as locknuts, acorn nuts would not work for this. I prefer regular hex head screws because they use a larger drive size than button head. YMMV.

I use the acorn nuts as the "knob" like on the originals with a little loctite and cranked down. I run a tap down the holes so they turn by hand.

.
...it is not at all difficult to break off a small diameter tap like this in the hole you are cleaning.
Use plenty of oil on the tap, and back it out every couple of turns to let the chips of paint and detritus clear.

They are hardened to maintain the cutting edges, so brittle. Because they are hardened, they are difficult to drill out if you break one in the dropout.

Just a suggestion, you could dremel a short lengthwise cut on a proper screw for a tap.
