vintage trek, steel frame, $130, good deal?
Hi.
Yesterday I saw a vintage trek, sport racing bike at pawn shop, $130, is it a good catch?
I remember the name was cronus (?) with exage real derailure.

Sure it wasn't a Cirrus? Don't know of any steel Treks named Cronus. There was a Gary Fisher Cronus, but that was a carbon fiber frame if memory serves.

Didn't Camagnolo have a Chronos groupset? Maybe he just saw the name on a component.
Need pic for identification, but if even what half of what you say is true, I find it hard to believe that it's worth any less than $130.

Modolo had "Kronos" components,but those were very expensive (frankly, way overpriced, even today) and I think limited production aero components (brakeset and shift levers).

sorry for my bad memory. If I said the trek then all you guys would have figured out it was 'kronos' not the 'cornos' I claimed.

Scooper gave you the link to the Kronos listed on bikepedia. Yes, it's a 4130 chromoly unicrown fork per that link.

That's a good price for a bicycle with a 4130 frame. If you are looking for a rider and the bike fits, this is a solid deal.

Bought with missing wheelset and some parts. Tho a nice riding bike/the drops were steel! 
So put on what I had. Well worth their price for a rider.

i paid $80 on CL for a TREK 420 that was actually a TREK last year.
if your potential GIANT (that's not a TREK) doesn't need any work, then $130 is probably OK.
I am thinking my bike and your potential bike are of similar value ~ sport/touring bikes; decent bikes when sold new without being high end -ish.
I just sold a Schwinn Paramount PDG2 (made in Japan of TANGE steel, lugged frame, similar fork) ~ it needed no work and was ready to ride. I got about $320 for it w/ 8-spd STI shifting, Shimano Ultegra 600 group of components.

A quick glance at the cables and it obviously needs some work. If you can do that work, fine, if not, keep looking. If what I can see needs maintenance, then its pretty much a guarantee what I can't see will need maintenance. Old rusty cables = bike has not been maintained, which is not unusual. But given it is now 20 years old, its going to need some. What can't I see? Condition of wheel hubs, bottom bracket, and headset. Chances are, they will all need maintenance and sometimes replacement is the remedy.
I've never seen a pawn store bike that didn't need some TLC.
