"Play" in wheel bearings
I recently read in RBA that it is a good idea to check your wheel bearings for "play." I had not really ever done that before.
I checked, and I am able to move the wheel side-to-side about 1mm (maybe slightly less) measured at the rim.
Is this normal "play" or do I really need to tighten the hub's bearings?!?

Depends on the bearing type. A sealed bearing wheel may have some play in it. but a cone and race type should not have any play.

Has a sealed bearing, do you still have the tool that came with it?

There should be a slight play that the QRelease should take out when clamped.
