What mtb tires do you recommend for snow?

Almost any aggressive knobby MTB tire will work reasonably well in snow, but they won't work on ice. If you have a lot of ice you will need a winter studded tires. Studs is the only thing that grips on ice.

how many rides do you anticipate?
what will the conditions be? paved? unpaved? frozen hard dirt w/o any snow or ice? plowed snow? smooth roads with just ice? deep soft snow? crunchy hard pack? smooth hard pack?
approximately, where do you live?
on my MTB I've been using studded winter tires that aren't very aggressive but had a fall when I encountered fresh powder over glare ice. the snow compacted the tread & lifted me off the studs & I went down hard & a decent speed. so last year I switched my MTB to a more aggressive tread, also w/ studs. the deeper wider tread is less likely to compact with snow. used them often last winter. not sure I ever tested them on the dreaded "fresh powder over glare ice"
aggressive vs not so aggressive
bigger voids less likely to retain compacted snow
3-4" fresh snow over grass & dirt, no ice

yes, agree, I use my bike to work all year (lives in sweden and there is a lot of ice on the streets in the winters). if you have loow air preassury in the tires it gets less slippery
