Just another cardio ride but I’m quite happy about no real adventure but 50deg F at the end of December, and clear sunny skies, light winds from the WNW. I was on a section of the SRT that I ride a lot so no gandering, just riding and thinking. As the year end approaches, I was thinking about the past year and all the joys and sorrows that transpired. Excellent cycling adventures. No medical issues. Family continues to grow at the bottom and thin at the top. I was thinking about getting to be one of the real old men of the family now. Who’d have thought. I’s thinking about why, after several thousand years of development of the human race, greed, ego, lust and stupidity continue to “bubble to the top” and be rewarded by the masses. A’s wonder’n what will betide during my 73rd circumnavigation of our star.

Ah’s thinking about the fact that I’m relatively healthy, good home, great family, nice pile of bicycles that I enjoy riding. Think'n about still being able to ride 25 miles in one go without a rest stop, even this time of year. Think’n about the fine adventures and trips I’ve taken this past year and about what trips could happen next year. Think’n bout 3 more months of cold and snow and think’n bout bright, sunny, 90degF days. And, as I’m on “the Mule” today, I’m thinking about the Erie Canal.

25 miles on my Technium Tri-Lite riding the Le Tour De Ham Saturday Stroll this morning. Gloomy and overcast after an overnight bout of "wintry mix", but 5 hardy riders braved the 35f temps for the fun.

Been off the bike since getting “The Plague” on Dec 17. At the time, I was 20 miles short of my yearly goal. Had to sit out some really nice weather for December. Felt decent today, so took a slow+easy 21-mile ride.

The madness of the “Home Alone” house. I pass this house on almost every ride. Usually, there’s a car or two out front with people taking pics. Around Christmas, it gets nuts. The street was closed and there were 75-100 people. The homeowners have to hire security to keep people from jumping the fence.



Stopped at Lloyd Park to peep the lake. Looks chilly. Temp was 36 degrees at ride time.



Speaking of The Lloyds, they commissioned Charles Haag to create “The Cornerstone of the Castle” sculpture in memory of Henry Demarest Lloyd. It’s been at the corner of Lloyd and Sheridan since 1914. Headgear has been updated seasonally for as long as I can remember.



Rolled down the Green Bay Trail for a bit. Found a discreet spot to tap a kidney.



Overall, happy to be back on the bike. Freezing rain is predicted for tomorrow. Need to rebuild the rear wheel before next season.

2 rides today on my '54 Raleigh. First up was the "Ride of the Davids" with Le Tour De Ham, then a short jaunt through downtown for some photo ops with the Raleigh. Weather was much better than yesterday, sunny and got up to 57f by then end of the ride.

Happy New Year everyone! Wasn’t planning on riding today but couldn’t drum up interest in a family bike so I bundled up and did it. Hoping for 24 miles for the new year but got 23.4. Close enough! Overcast and chilly but glad I did it. No pics today, sorry.

Test ride and adjustments while I road to the Cemetery to see my Family. Weather could not be nicer with high 50’s and plenty of sunshine.

1984 Schwinn High Sierra MTB, more or less period correct components included. Had this one awhile.

Afterwards stopped at a new coffee place for coffee and lunch. Good all around!

I got back out today for another cold 25 miles. Did some minor adjustments on the Giro this morning and the chain rub I was having is gone. Best pace since starting these rehab miles but still pretty slow and pathetic. The legs did wake up for a bit today and I was able to ride a few miles at my normal pace. HR hit at least 174 which is not a good sign and tell me I was having to work for the "normal" speeds. The bike felt pretty comfortable today which is good considering when I ride slow and heavy in the saddle a lot of the bikes get uncomfortable. Played on a couple of high speed turns until I smacked that big ol' pedal on the pavement and realized I'd better behave myself. Grabbed more pics today. Temp snuck up to 36 degrees during the ride.

Lens flare, the P&S is literally falling apart and I need to replace it soon.

Very little snow this year.

41 miles in Northern Frederick (Md) county today with light snow above 1000 ft elevation.

No photos, but I rode with my daughter to Yoyogi park in Tokyo. She’s 9 years old, and began riding a few months ago. I bought her an 8-speed Trek 24” Precaliber, and she’s riding it like a champ. She has been riding almost every day since winter break began, has gotten good at using the gears, and can ride for surprisingly long distances. I was following along on my old 2-speed Moulton Stowaway.

Over the next couple of years I hope we’ll be able to do some bikepacking in Aomori and Hokkaido.

Wanted to get a long-ish ride in for new year's day. I got RSV in late August and have only been doing mostly short commutes since then.
Wow! Fitness melts away pretty quickly in your 50's! lol. It was a beautiful day here with very light traffic, almost no wind and crystal clear skies.
Got in 37 miles and felt great after.
