Dura-Ace brake weirdness

My brother had the shorter of my Dad’s Colnagos. (It fits me perfect, but he’s shorter. Sigh)

but his thing is motorcycles. After 7 years of it hanging in his wife’s sewing room, I got it back for a bottle of Pinot and a future trade TBD.

Anyway, I find no fault w Dura-Ace, but I’m also not familiar with the intricacies.

this brake set has a weird washer or grommet.

what’s up w that?

also, note the last photo has what looks like campy adjusters. Yet there are no divots for this to really work.

can someone explain what’s really going on?

thanks.

Here's their Dura Ace 7403 dual pivot that came out with 8sp.
That grommet merely holds the barrell adjuster in place.
Hopefully, your set includes the small insert pictured below.
Those get lost by everybody. No replacement part issued by Shimano.

Campy used a strange paper bit to keep it all together

makes total sense

and yes, lil plastic bits are present

The divots feel cool when you turn them and feel the “indexing,” but don’t really do anything.

They should prevent the adjuster from vibrating loose.

Theoretically. The tension in the system mitigates that.
