I overheard him talking about wheels to someone else. Apparently some of those wheels are brand new. His rear wheel is arriving any day now, according to that conversation.

Hurting in a doomed 2-man break on a fast non-technical crit course (Driveway Speed Loop in Austin, TX) on my birthday. We lasted a few laps and I got a prime...which I forgot to collect!

Brandon's mom - Vickie Batchelder McNulty takes nice pictures of my kid and others. She posted these to Facebook.
These are from the U23 race.
Daniel (White LUX kit) bridged up to the chase with some 20 pros or so. The 3 riders had been alone for 2 hour on the front and a few chases had got a couple min gap, then failed. Daniel made an effort, a counter, that result created an asplosion - where he got dispatched backwards, and resulted in 7 mini chase groups.

I'm suffering all right... Suffering because I wish I had fixed up my track bike in time

I found some great photos of the giro del cielo but they are on a website that requires you to enter your email to see the photos, and are watermarked with "DO NOT COPY." I wish the photographer the best of luck in his or her endeavors.

the name entering thing is definitely annoying (I get it, she wants to know who's visiting), but you have to enter it every time you visit...
i don't mind people posting watermarks. They are the ones showing up and taking the time to stand in the sun/rain to take pictures so we can have some mementos afterwards. If it helps cover their expenses so that they'll be at other races, all the better.
That said, the prices have climbed a bit. I ponied up for it as I need to know what aero faux-pas i'm committing, but $10 for a low-res pic and $20 for a high-res? Yikes. $7.50 and $15 for low and high-res would perhaps be more palatable.

Watermarks are great! Watermarked photos that say who took the photo are a great way to share cool photos with a clear way to identify who took the photo if anyone wants to buy a print.
The "DO NOT COPY" watermark along with the sign-in, though, is saying "you can only look at these photos here," which imo is not so great.

BTW @echappist you might be confusing "bike race pics" with "bicycle racing pictures" maybe? The former is the ultra-secure photographer who I think is a guy (at least that's who I saw taking the photos during the race), the latter is a much more share-friendly woman who is a mainstay at NYC area races.

I thought you were referring to the former and was commenting on the former (as she was at Cielo). She's from south NJ (across the river from Philly), and her husband is a M45/Cat-3 racer with a load of points to cat-2. I've raced with him once when we broke away with one other at NJ State RR. You probably saw him taking photos?
The "Do Not Copy" thing doesn't bother me. We as bike racers seem to almost demand access to pictures as a matter of right, yet someone has to stand there in the heat for hours to shoot the photos. We give a throw-away credit line to the photographer, but there no actual compensation. If the "Do Not Copy" brings in a bit of income for her, then all the better.
Was there anyone else shooting at Cielo this year?

I mean, the photographer can and should do whatever they want to share or protect their photos. This is really just my opinion on DRM in general -- images, music, software, etc.
I think letting people share watermarked photos creates good will, increases the exposure of the photos, and ultimately generates more income for the photographer. Trying to prevent any sharing of photos, even watermarked, is extra work on the photographer's part and if anything it decreases income. My 2c.
Were you at Cielo? I didn't see your name in the TT results.

I think what you proposed would be the happy medium btwn free-flowing and restrict access.
I sat out as I was having knee issues. I'm worse than the average triathlete when I'm on my TT bike, and not having pre-ridden the course would have been bad. I'll have to meet up with you and @theKillerPenguin another time.

Off the front solo for 4.5 of the last 5 (0.7 mile) laps, hurting. Got caught right before the sprint, at least I gave it a go.
I need to work on getting lower when I'm really cranking like that - but the form tends to fall apart when fatigue sets in:

Yeah, I might need to practice that one a bit more... I even have some skateboard deck tape on the tops of the (aero) road drops for that reason

yeah but if you're lower and further ahead there is more dissonance behind you about who's going to chase and you stick it.

Also, it keeps the elbows tucked in more which is ~probably~ faster.

Those look like round bars. As the IAB is usually forearms on bars that may be why it looks non-standard, maybe forearms on those bars hurt too much.
