Benotto Pista 1700 Value
Hey guys,
I got this from a local seller recently. I have ridden it a couple times and have no real immediate interest in selling it, maybe I will in a year or two. However, I am trying to determine if it's reasonable to ride this thing around, or if it should be velodrome only. I'm probably fairly easy on my bikes and it will certainly get good maintenance, but I know some guys are against old track bikes getting street use.
What do you guys think is a ballpark value? It's a 56.5cm Benotto 1700 with Columbus Zeta tubing, and a Suntour Superbe Pro groupset, all NJS stamped with the little NJS toolkit containing some wrenches, 4 chainrings and 5 cogs. Cinelli 1A stem, Cinelli pista bars, Zeus seatpost, old Mavic MA40 rims with some old Panasonic track tires. The spokes are wired together and possibly soldered where they cross. The pricing on old NJS stuff, even Suntour is pretty shocking to me.
The original owner is an interesting guy and he wasn't shy to talk about how hard he raced this thing; it has the battle scars to show it. Traded paint, rubs, knicks, little areas peeling on stickers, but no dents or structural damage. All exposed steel is still shiny, no rust.
At the very least it's getting different tires, maybe a backup saddle and gearing.
What do you guys think? What would you guys sell it for? Would I be a jackass riding it on nice roads and paved paths?

I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't ride a no brakes track bike on the road.

Dude, I’ve been eyeing this as well. I’m here in Tampa. I dig it a lot but just not the color scheme. If it was anything else or just color, I’d buy it in a heart beat.

If this was near me, I would be all over it. I’m seeing it listed with an asking price of $700. That’s what I expect it’ll be worth top dollar. Nice set up, save the crankset. Offer something a check it out!
Edit: with the extras, it’s very worth. Go get it!
