what is the highest tooth chainring i can fit on my bike? needs a chainguard

so, i have a downtube nova folding bike. it comes with a 46T chainring, but it is welded to the cranks, so i will need to replace everything. the stock chainring has a guard on both sides

so, i tried to swap it out with a 53T shimano 600 crankset (square taper). it works perfectly, with the exception that the chain will fall off of the ring sometimes because the chain bounces when i shift or hit bumps.

i tried to put in a front derailleur on the braze on, but it will just not work. it is too stiff to allow shifting and was hitting the chain, etc. so i gave up on a front derailleur

so, i'd rather just get a high tooth chainring crankset that has a chainguard on both sides. this should keep the chain in line for me. i'd like to get something that is greater than 46T. ideas?

Only thing I can think of that has a guide on both sides, available up to 52t. You would have to find a 110BCD crankset though...

so, this is a single speed bike? so there's no rear derailleur (a RD handles slack)?

so change the rear cog instead. or add a chain tensioner with the unguarded crank.

wait, so there's a front derailleur braze-on with no shifters?

so, what exactly is on this bike??

it has a 7 speed freewheel on the back with a rear derailluer

i was going to put a front derailluier on the bike, but it wouldn't fit into the braze on. i really have no need for a front derailluer other than keeping the chain centered on the largest front chain ring cog

i just want a chain ring cog that is larger than 46T and comes with square tapered cranks and a chain ring guard

Instead of using a FD for keeping your chain on the chainring. Consider using a chain keeper instead.

There is two designs, one mounts to the down tube and the other mounts to the BB shell.

You can also always take a grinder to a worn out chainring to make your own chain guard in whatever size you want.
