Chorus Aero Post angle range

I picked up one of these and found that the range of the angle is not enough for the angle I need on the saddle.
Is this a common problem? I admit to needing the saddle near level and the adjustment is just outside of the needed angle.

Is it specific to that saddle?

Those are one of the best looking posts out there. Always been too short for me.

I think that may be more a function of the saddle than the seat post. Brooks are *usually* ridden slightly nose up. That looks like an Athena post, a Record or later Chorus may offer more adjustment. I have Record on my bikes, and ride a Regal saddle level.

Have you taken the post apart? Maybe there some crud or corrosion limiting the range.

@thinktkubes - VERY clean!
@jiangshi - Guess I need calibration on the differences between them. Definitely a difference between saddles. The Flite did not have the same issue.

No marking on the post. The example of an Athena on Velobase has an Athena inscription.

I may extend the slot but I think there is interference between parts too.

I’ve used several of these and recall it being close once or twice but never have been unable to use one because of this. Just a thought; maybe flip the clamp the other way. I double checked the clamps on a couple of spares a have and they look symmetric but worth a try.

I just ran into a similar problem yesterday with an old Dura Ace aero post. I finally just turned the two clamp pieces around and things then went fine. The looked totally identical so I'm not sure what was going on. Maybe try that with yours?

SJX426 That particular style of seat post was used from Xenon all the way to Chorus in the late 1980's to early 1990s. In 1995, Chorus changed to the Record style, but said Chorus on it.

Seat post was not machined correctly. I have had a Few, easy fix. Round file should extend the reach on the bolt slot. Just did that kind of repair to a Late Super Record Post.

@jiangshi - Thanks for the clarification! Now I have to go looking for a record post! A lot of ebay posts look like mine but are identified by the seller as C-Record. Only found one Record post.
@Michael Angelo - Thanks for the encouragement to make the mod!

I just looked at eBay. Yeah, those posts that are labeled C Record are not. Cat 18 is the earliest I have that has the aero seat post.

I do have one 27.2 Record aero seat post in my parts bin that is not being used that I would consider parting with.

For future reference, this is what a Record Seat post looks like.

@thinktubes - I thought it would be too short for me too. It is right on the line. If the frame were a size smaller it would be too short. As someone pointed out on the other thread, Brooks tends to be different from other saddles. The saddle pictured was on a American Classic. When I put the Flite on the AC, there was a lot of adjustment change on the angle screw. About half its length.
@Spaghetti Legs - I will have to check. I haven't as yet. Now my memory is not as good as it once was but sometimes is good as it ever was...I think I did check with it flipped.
@Michael Angelo - I believe I responded to this same message but that is good info. I may have even used a round file on it and then found there is another casting feature that was limiting the rotation.

Swapping the parts out was strangely rewarding. Haven't don anything to the bikes for several months. I feel the pull towards the garage to do more! Pulled down the Trek 760 frame set. Drawn toward building it up the way it is because I have not ridden it. I should start a build thread!

Finally took the post apart to see what the limit feature is. It is called a slot. @ Michael Angelo is quite correct in terms of being able to make a modification. There is plenty of meat on the bone to remove.
The post i have is NOT a record. Sellers on the bay will mislead you if the profile of the head looks anything like mine and is labeled a Record.
So here is the post and its parts.

The square washer must be aligned with the base:

An extreme but demonstrates there is no other stop for the base other than the fastener in the slot.
