So the LBS called me up...
...and asked me if I wanted any of their old tools.
"Yes" doesn't tell the half of it.
Isn't it great when you go through a pile like this only to find more and more stuff underneath? Suffice it to say that between this and the Raleigh Pro, I've used up my Bike Karma™ for the month. Big time.

Wow- that’s quite a haul, even if I don’t know what half of it does! Is there anything in there that will help you straighten your Grand Prix frame?

WOW, H**Y CRAP! Most of those are the original versions when tools were tools and men were..... capable of using them.
Great score

Cleaning compound, shop rags, maybe a very fine file to take off nicks and then a peg board wall and hang them up, to keep them well at hand. Oh, and a half case of the BEST to the LBS.

The best part about it is that most of it is old VAR stuff. I'd take the old VAR bits any day over the new stuff.

Wow.....nice haul.....but it gets be thinking does the bike shop not need these because they are duplicates or the got new stuff or do they don't use the classic tools or don't know how? I really hope it is not the later....

Quite a collection.
Did the shop just give it to you, like hauling out the trash?
Are they upgrading, or did they just decide this was all "vintage" that they don't mess with anymore?

The SS1 is long gone so that is a great score, I have an HTS-1 and most of the other frame tools, got lucky, they are all barely used and were a pretty good deal. There are a couple of Hts-1's on efbay right now, not cheap, but.......

Simple formula - add up the ages of your store's repair staff, and divide to get an average age. Put any tools older than that age into a box, and offer to the first C&V-obsessed customer who comes to mind.
But yeah +1 above, they probably have little/no remaining use (or know-how) of this generation of tool. So it's a win-win-win; goes to someone who will appreciate them, declutters their shop, and keeps them in use/circulation.

Did you buy them a beer? You've got a friend or two.

The owner expressed an interest in one of the Giant Brass 1's I'm flipping as a bike for his son. Can't have a better lead in for the perfect "thank you" than that. Have already offered it to him.

Well, I'd like to add my congrats on a nice haul. AND, I love tools! For what it's worth, as I've spent more time in the C&V arena, I've found that I don't have to do much looking for tasty bits. People have started contacting me instead. 'Just took a call today from someone wanting to know if I was interested in a tubular wheel set.....

The basket is almost as heavy as the tools, believe it or not.
I've had one before, and stupidly sold it off along with my cold-setting tools when the bike thing was winding down for me a few years ago.
Where's that headbutting emoji again? Oh yea, here it is.
The Raleigh Pro (and Friends) find from last week happened because I dropped in. "Hey, I've got a Raleigh Professional..." and that was it.
This tool set happened because a recent event put me in contact with the shop again. They transported our bike rodeo bicycles to an event with their shop van. It gave us a chance to touch base on old times...and old tools.
