'18 Giant Toughroad SLR1 fell out of the Ugly Tree & hit every branch on the way down
I had read somewhere that the 2018 Giant Toughroad SLR 1 was going to be a predominantly grey colour and
I thought that this did not sound good, as I had flashbacks to the type of grey that cursed the 2015 Trek 7.4FX Disc, but if the below graphic looks much like how the bike will appear in the flesh, I would say that this colour scheme is even worse than the 2015 7.4FX Disc.
As a very happy owner of the 2016 Toughroad SLR 2, I really want to see this model range do well and become an established model for Giant, much like the FX is for Trek or the Sirrus is for Specialized, as the design features of this bike, means it has few peers.
However this colour scheme is such a misstep in my view, I fear for the model's continuing existence.
Am I overreacting?

It looks like some kind of artist rendering. Hoping so anyway. The picture has a 3x crank on it yet the description advertises the same double crank from previous years. Spec wise, it appears the same as last year with just a different paint job.

@ColonelSanders This is the 2018 Fastroad so your image may be accurate if they are using that...yellow?

Not a big fan of the "fluorescent" accent colors they're using on bike lately, or the graphic stickers they put on the wheels now. I tend to like the minimal approach when it comes to color schemes, but hey thats just me. I spent over an hour removing every sticker on my new bike if it was a wheel graphic, brand sticker or a warning sticker.
I think the newer carbon frames with their cut angles and smooth joints look great on their own.

That looks both quite nice and like the real picture, rather than a representation.
Sadly I fear the 2018 Toughroad SLR 1 will not look anywhere near as good.

There are a few spots of grey on the frame. Looks a lot like the grey that's predominant in the image you posted.

While I am a fan of Giant build quality, their appearance packages in the last couple of years in terms of the ToughRoad or Anyroad series have been hard on the eyes...
So Good News -
I have not been able to find any ToughRoad models in a Large size here in the Twin Cities since I became interested in them a couple of months ago - influenced much based on a test ride of a size M version and Colonel Sanders impressions. So maybe we'll see some 2018's rolling in.
Bad News -
If I'm going to spend a grand on a bike, I really want to love how it looks. I don't love the look of this one.

I think it looks better than the 2017 SLR1. As a guy the colors on this are too feminine for me. I preferred the red and black on the 2016 SLR1.

The SLR 0 looks pretty good in my opinion:

It's been a mystery to me if I go into Dick's Sporting Goods it's a riot of very current-looking shades of red and yellow and blue, but if I look at the bike racks in REI it looks like this

C'mon... if you don't like the colors, you can have the frame sandblasted to bare aluminum or powder-coated to any color you like.
What's the saying about paint? Its cheap and you can change it.

Its not that cheap, I doubt most people could afford the cost or the time the bike would be out of service, plus unless you want a plain frame (like me) you would need to buy at least a brand logo decal, then have a coat of clear sprayed over it. Don't see many people doing that on a sub $2k bike.

The color of the 2018 model is actually more blue than the computer rendering that OP posted from the US website, and I guess it makes the hideous green "highlights" a little easier to take. Still, I have been looking at a Giant Toughroad, Fastroad or Anyroad as an N+1 and I just want to slap the green outta the Giant designer.
Every model available to me has at least some of that nasty cheap looking "zombie biohazard green" on it. If worst comes to worst, there is always plastidip for the frame and a hairdryer to remove the rim stickers.

Don't know why they have to go to these crazy colour schemes. I mean, classic solid black with white decals, white with black decals (like my Giant Rapid), maybe red if you're feeling frisky. These schemes rarely turn people off are are rarely the deal-breaker in a purchase; those other colour schemes just might be.

#1 - colonel, i have one of those 2015 trek fx 7.4's in gray and i absolutely hate the color. but the bike rides nicely
#2 - i dont know too much about the model you posted but those green "accents" just look like randomly placed splashes of color. looks like there was no structure or rhyme or reason to where they placed them...... like all the spots where the green is was arbitrarily chosen in arbitrary shapes/patterns......
