Friday - Rowan and I got out for a short ride late in the day. It was a lazy day for me after a stressful week, so the sun went down soon after we got out there.
Distance: 7.03 km
Elevation: 44 m
Moving Time: 27:27
Elapsed Time: 28:05
Speed: Avg: 15.4 km/h | Max: 28.1 km/h
Saturday - Rowan and I got out for a longer ride today! And then stopped for fish and chips toward the end of the ride.
Distance: 29.36 km
Elevation: 206 m
Moving Time: 1:40:35
Elapsed Time: 2:35:33
Speed: Avg: 17.5 km/h | Max: 28.8 km/h
The first two are from when we stopped to eat. Not a lot of "nature" there, but the yachts are sitting on water. And a photo of the last few leaves on our Japanese maple ... they're almost all gone.

I plan to ride tomorrow . I will try to get some pictures with description of my ride. I almost always ride on Sunday , starting early in the morning and done before mid day. Sometimes I have no plan , I just ride and see where I end up! Sometimes the fog along the coast will force me up one the canyons here and I am always amazed at the beauty around here once I get out of the "city".
Wheeler Canyon, Santa Paula California. No fog here!
Just me and the Vultures

Started at 12:18AM today with the intention of completing a STRAVA ART ride. A 96% waxing Gibbous Moon helped illuminate the roads along with light winds and a bit lower temperature due to a heavy rain 6 hours earlier made for a very enjoyable ride. I'm always on edge when the ride is downloaded since one wrong off-on or on-off with the computer can destroy the entire picture. I added a few extra miles since I hadn't ridden in a week and the MOJO was flowing.
Total ride was 121.11 miles --- https://www.relive.cc/view/2451714693
The STRAVA ART amounted to 14.54 miles --- https://www.relive.cc/view/2451774101
hope the links work

A very interesting article I came across about a year ago in the early days of Rowan's recovery ...
https://www.brainline.org/blog/getti...ou-should-care
A quote from the article:
"Certain types of physical exercise have been shown to markedly (threefold) increase BDNF synthesis in the human brain, a phenomenon which is partly responsible for exercise-induced neurogenesis and improvements in cognitive function.
A three hundred percent increase in a protein known to help the brain recover is something to look at quite seriously. Neurogenesis is a simple concept. It is the growth of new brain cells.
Think about this for a moment: engaging in regular physical activity produces a chemical that is proven to stimulate new brain cell growth. This vital chemical keeps brain circuits running smoothly and is increased threefold by regular exercise. I call this nothing short of remarkable.
The good news is that you don’t need to be a daily cyclist to get this benefit. Shared by the doctor who presented at our group, thirty minutes of exercise, three times a week, will release BDNF’s and speed the neuro healing process."

Well, busy weekend for me but I did manage to sneak out each day for a ride.
Saturday - The fastest 25 miles of the year. Did it on the ol' PDG Series Paramount while rocking out to Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell. Best pace of the year on this route although I'm sure finally having a wind free day helped too.
Sunday - Another lap on my 25 mile route. This time testing out the beautiful, and recently built up, Paletti. Seatpost slipped during the ride so I'm holding judgement on the bike until I get a clean ride in on it. Other than the fact that it really is gorgeous.
And if I had realized it was Nature Photography day I would have stopped and taken some pics. So in honor, how about some of my nature photography instead?
And of course my favorite nature shots involve wildlife.

Every lane is a bike lane
My Diverge was back on the road yesterday (so of course, my commuter flatted this morning).
118km with a ridiculous amount of climbing.
This type of weather is extremely unusual for this time of year in these parts. It's usually bright sunshine. I guess I'll just have to enjoy this as long as I have it. Spring officially starts in two weeks.

Rode from Richmond IN to Marysville OH. 105 miles and averaged 17.5 mph.
Rode from Richmond IN to Marysville OH. 105 miles and averaged 17.5 mph. Had a great tailwind so it was weather assisted. It poured rain the first hour or so but turned out to be a great ride. I hooked up with a buddy that is doing the Ride Across America. They let me and my son tag along on this leg.
Got a flat about 10 miles in. 😞

You guys have some beautiful places to ride. Here in central Georgia, not so much. I'm gonna try to sneak some more weekly riding in. My schedule simply hasn't permitted this year.

I went for my Father's day ride . Here in Southern California we are having a gloomy start to summer, lots of overcast with drizzle(rain). I left my house in Santa Paula about 15 miles from the coast and was wet by the time I got to east Ventura. I stopped to talk to my Daughter for a minute via phone. I do not talk and ride! By the time I got to the beach it was still overcast but no drizzle(thank you). I then took a ride through the last of our agriculture lands towards Oxnard (south) and then a loop back . A whole lot of ride for a morning's adventure! Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress

Didn't ride this weekend. Flew into JFK from 10 days in France on Sunday. But, I did get a ride in this morning.

Sunday: Fun group gravel ride in the middle of nowhere, Southeast Minnesota. I'd forgotten how tough gravel climbing can get! 60.4 miles, 4,042' (including the really flat and paved ~13.5 miles home.)

I put in an 80 mile ride on Saturday, but only 1,100 feet of climb. Took an hour to get in the groove, stopped for a smoothie then had a great run for the last hour and a half at 20mph.
Sunday I was going to do a 55 mile ride but reconsidered and did 27 miles instead at a harder pace, then got home and ate waffles/bbq for Father's day Went for a great walk to a park.
